With over a year under their belt at The Strand Cahore just outside the small fishing village of Ballygarrett 10 minutes from Gorey, Patrick and Aileen Hanley are looking back on what was a whirlwind year for the couple. Having moved family and passion across the country from their home town of Kenmare in County Kerry in 2017 with a population of 2000 people and boasting over 45 pubs and restaurants, this couple are no strangers to the hospitality industry. Capping off 2018 with a nod from food writer Gillian Neilis as being in the Top Ten Restaurants to visit, they are very excited to resume their food service once again on 15th March after spending the winter months of January & February renovating their kitchens. Their passion for food is translated in their menu, focusing on country wide artisanal farmers and producers with a heavy focus on fresh fish dishes. They lovingly prepare their own sauces, dips, breads and patés daily with classics such as their succulent Kilmore Quay Prawn Pil Pil with homemade crusty white loaf and desserts such as homemade fresh fruit trifle, there is something for everyone. Having renovated the bar which overlooks the Irish Sea in December with cosy warm tones and historical pictures lining the walls, board games and crosswords and live music every Saturday night you are sure to receive a very warm welcome and enjoyable visit.
