Motorists had no car insurance
Motorists who admitted being on the road without insurance received no driving bans from Judge John Cheatle when he dealt with cases at Gorey District Court:
James Kavanagh (37), from 99 Moran Park, Enniscorthy had no cover at Bellefield on June 3. He told the court he only drove that day in order to check tyre pressures prior to selling his Peugeot 206 fine €200;
Richard Murphy (43) from 26 Slí na Sláine, Enniscorthy committed his offence at Milehouse Road on May 2 last. The court was told that Murphy was the only driver in the household he shares with a partner and four children fine €200;
Conor O’Brien (23) from Ballinakill, Ballycarney mistakenly thought he had ‘open drive’ cover when he borrowed his brother’s car to collect his partner from work on May 1, 2017. The court was told that he needs to drive 30 kilometres to work each day fine €200;
Father of one Patrick Carroll (22) from 6 Cloney Park in Davidstown did not understand the consequences of driving without insurance, his solicitor reckoned. The offence was detected at Abbey Square on May 7 fine €250;
Kimberley Findley (28) of 20 Bellefield Springs, Enniscorthy, who works as a carer, blamed a complication over a bank standing order for the fact that she was not insured at Irish Street on March 16 last.
She genuinely believed at the time that she was in order fine €250.
