Purple n’ Gold in London for GAA Gathering!
THE PURPLE AND GOLD was flying proudly in London recently as a major fundraising event for Wexford GAA took over the English capital. The Wexford GAA London Gathering was a major fundraising event which took place at the Clayton Chiswick Hotel to coincide with the Wexford footballers’ National League away fixture in London – one that sadly ended in their defeat.
However, in advance of the game, spirits were high as the event united members of the Wexford diaspora from across London in a joint effort by Club Wexford, the Wexford Supporters Club and the Commerical Steering Committee, under the management of Eanna Martin and chaired by former hurler David Doc O’Connor.
On the Saturday night, Wexford fans got the chance to pose their burning questions to a panel that included Davy Fitzgerald, former Wexford footballer and current London football manager Ciaran Deely from Horeswood, Wexford hurlers’ joint captain Matthew O’Hanlon, ’96 legend Adrian Fenlon and footballer Brian Malone.
There was plenty of discussion and banter on the night and the Q&A was followed by music from Hungry Grass to keep everyone entertained.
A great evening was had by all and, despite the result at McGovern Park, great memories were made by those in attendance. Big thanks were extended to London GAA and the hotel management for providing a wonderful welcome.
