Gorey played host to U.C.D. 7 on Saturday in Enniscorth­y’s Astro Active Centre.

U.C.D. took push back and entered Gorey’s circle for the first time, winning a penalty corner immediatel­y.

U.C.D. set up, taking a shot from the top of the circle. Gorey’s Bridget Kenny and ’keeper Fiona Mythen saved the initial shot but were unlucky when the ball deflected up into the goal.

Gorey re-started and won a penalty corner. Robyn Swords pushed out, and Sarah Merrigan slipped the ball left, with Nicola Ryan taking a shot but it was saved by the ’keeper.

Ailbhe Booth tapped the ball through the ’keeper’s legs, and Zoe Kenny was there to finish it off (1-1).

U.C.D. re-started but lost possession in midfield. Gorey applied pressure, winning a series of penalty corners.

A Gorey set-piece from Sarah Merrigan and Nicola Ryan gave them the lead heading into the half-time break.

Gorey re-started the second-half, maintainin­g the larger amount of possesion. On the day, Gorey were too strong.

Gorey made changes, which lead to further goals from Zoe Kenny, Sarah Merrigan and Robyn Swords.

Gorey are back on the road next weekend to take on Trinity in their next league match.
