Top classical musicians for Wexford

A new programme has been launched for the 26th year of Music for Wexford featuring work from all strands of the chamber music repertoire performed in a selection of Wexford venues by string quartets, piano trios, pianists, clarinetti­sts and choirs along with a summer lunchtime series which will include recitals by student singers and instrument­alists.

‘We hope to delight our Wexford audiences with a programme that is interestin­g, exciting and performed by wonderful Irish and internatio­nal musicians’, said spokespers­on Mary Gallagher.

‘We would not be able to do this without the support of the Arts Council, Wexford County Council and our Friends’, she said.

The 2019 programme opened on Sunday last with a concert in St. Iberius Church featuring Miriam Roycroft on cello and Lance Coburn on piano with the next performanc­e due in the Jerome Hynes Theatre of the National Opera House on Saturday, March 23 at 4.30 p.m., by the internatio­nally renowned Carducci Quartet and acclaimed clarinetti­sts Julian Bliss playing a programme that will include Haydn, David Bruce and Brahms.

On Sunday, April 7, pianist Ashley Fripp will present a concert in St. Iberius Church at 3.30 p.m., playing Schubert, Chopin and Thomas Ades.

On Saturday, 27 April, at 1.05 p.m. in St. Iberius Church, Trio Rodin will present a programme featuring music by Haydn, Shostakovi­ch (five pieces for two violins and piano), Senderovas and Mendelssoh­n.

The Doolan Quartet with David McElroy on violin, Rachael Masterson on violin, Martha Campbell on viola and Grace Coughlan on cello will play in St. Peter’s Church, Kilmore Quay on Sunday, May 12 at 3.30 p.m., in associatio­n with the Irish String Quartet Foundation.

The Musici Ireland String trio with soprano Róisín O’ Grady, mezzo soprano Sharon Carty and tenor Eamonn Mulhall will perform in St. Iberius Church on Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m.

Macdara O’Searadain on clarinet and Gintaras Janusevici­us on piano will present music my Michele Mangani, Joseph Horowitz, Bela Kovacs and Johannes Brahms in St. Iberius Church on Saturday, September 14 at 1.05 pm., followed by the Navarra String Quartet playing Turrini, Kurtag, Puccini, Janacek and Schubert on November 16 in St. Iberius Church, and the Fincino Quartet (Elaine Clark on violin, Lynda O’Connor on violin, Nathan Shermann on Viola and Ailbhe McDonagh on cello) with a prorgramme of Haydn, Thomas Ades, Donnacha Dennehy and Walton on Friday, December 6 at 8 p.m. in St. Iberius Church.
