Library launch for ‘Fighting Words’
THE next generation of budding Wexford writers were given a leg-up last week with the launch of the ‘Fighting Words Wexford’ storytelling and creative writing project at Wexford Library.
The programme offers story making workshops for children and young people to enable them discover and harness the power of their own imaginations and creative writing skills. In Co Wexford, ‘Fighting Words’ will offer free storytelling and creative writing workshops to all primary schools from a base in Wexford Library with the support of adult mentors and the library staff team.
Schools are invited to book in classes, from 1st to 6th class, to attend on Friday mornings for 2 hours from 10.30 a.m. Schools interested in reserving a place can contact the library on 053 9196760.
Over the course of the sessions, the children work first collaboratively and then individually to create their new story with volunteer mentors. As the programme progresses, it is planned to recruit and train more adult volunteers.
Lead facilitator on the programme, author Caroline Busher said:
‘I am delighted that we are bringing this wonderful initiative to Wexford Public Library Services. Our libraries in County Wexford are a wonderful resource and I firmly believe that this collaboration between Fighting Words and Wexford Public Library Service will have a positive impact on the lives of young people living in County Wexford and beyond.’
Application forms to volunteer for the programme are available from www.wexfordcoco.ie/libraries.
