CASTLEDOCKRELL NS

Catholic School’s Week was a busy week in Castledockrell NS the highlights of which was our annual Grandparents’ Day. We were delighted with such a big turnout. Grannies/Nannies and Granddads travelled from near and far to be with us on this special day. We had a short prayer service following this the children sung songs and played music. Then we had a’Knit and chat’ and finally enjoyed a nice cup of tea and cake. Thank you to everyone who came along on the day.

As part of our Green School endeavour we visited the’ Cool Planet Experience’ in Powerscourt Gardens on Thursday, February 7. The Cool Planet Experience is a fun, interactive climate action experience and it’s the first of its kind in the world. We were immersed in the story of Ireland’s changing climate. We also took part in an interactive, hands-on workshop where we learned about the acidification of our oceans through mixing some household acids and bases. All children trained to be ‘Agents of Change’ and pledged to do their part to help reduce climate change. It was a really worthwhile trip and the senior room look forward to doing their own climate change projects in the coming weeks.

On Friday, February 8, we planted a young whitethorn/ skeagh from Wexford County Council. We look forward to watching it grow and become our very own live May Bush to decorate in years to come as part of the Wexford May Bush Festival.

As part of our Active School Initiative ‘Suzy the Sporty Sheep’ will be going home with different children every weekend and taking part in lots of different games and activities. For further information on any of the above or to see photographs of all school events please visit our website castledockrellns.weebly.com.
