Wexford’s creative minds given room to create and collaborate
A creative project will take place in Co Wexford at Easter specifically aimed at teenagers aged between 14 and 17.
The ‘Room to Create’ initiative is being run by Orchard Recording Studio, in Enniscorthy, in conjunction with Music Generation Wexford and local composer, Laura Hyland.
Speaking to this newspaper about the project Brendan Carthy, from the Orchard studio, said the focus of attention during the workshops will be on creativity and ‘sonic arts’.
The initiative will look at aspects of sound with regard to soundtracks, theatre soundscapes and sound-art installations.
The links between performance art, music, sound and installations are intrinsic to the creative process for many practitioners and this will be explored during the course.
The project participants will learn how to record sound and image with Mr Carthy and the studio’s videographer, Paul Dowling.
They will also learn how to create their own music and soundscapes for live performance, film and video-art, with Ms Hyland.
The course will take place in the Presentation Centre, from Monday, April 22, to Friday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
It will culminate with a presentation day on Saturday, May 4.
The application process will include a short interview with prospective participants and places are limited.
To register for an interview contact: info@ orchardrecording.ie, phone 087-9523253, or look up Orchard Recording Studio’s Facebook page.
The interview day will take place in the Presentation Centre on Saturday, April 6, and times will be allotted upon registration.
