Celtic routes initiative to be launched in Wexford

- By BRENDAN KEANE

A new brand initiative aimed at enhancing links between Ireland and Wales will be launched in Co. Wexford on Wednesday, April 10, at 2 p.m.

Celtic Routes is an Interreg Ireland Wales co-funded project aimed at encouraging visitors to explore new areas of both countries while on route to their final tourist destination.

The launch will take place in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy.

Led by Carmarthenshire County Council, the project focuses on the areas of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, in Wales, and Wexford, Waterford, and Wicklow, here in Ireland.

It’s hoped the project will transform less well-known areas from ‘ transit zones’ into new touring sites and increase the time visitors spend in these regions.

The project will be developed through customer research, trade events and workshops as well as cross border visits by businesses in Ireland and Wales to utilise expertise and develop new ideas.

A spokesperson for Wexford County Council said: ‘ The objective is to increase the visitor appeal of the targeted areas, including through the development of new trails linking local culture, heritage and the natural environment’.

The launch in Enniscorthy will include partners and consultants involved with the project and local tourism providers are being encouraged to attend.

However, booking for the event must be made through the appropriate link on www.eventbrite.com.
