Jack’s the main lad with double

GOREY owner/trainer Jack Finn had a super night on Monday of last week at Enniscorthy dog track, recording a fine double including the final of the Spring Open Unraced Stake.

His Altesse Samcro got off to a flyer from his trap four box and raced away to a clearcut win from the Michael O’Grady pair, Borderan Rocket and Stevie, in a good 29.11 -30 slow.

Altesse has been improving nicely and peaked on the right night, earning his owner the nice €2,750 prize in style.

Finn had earlier seen his Altesse Winx score in race two in a good 29.24 -30 slow to record her second win from three runs.

The Spring Unraced Consolation saw a good run from the Tom Coleman (Piercestown)-owned Herecomesdanny who has been starting slowly in his races.

It was no different on this occasion but he traced well and there was a real battle going on ahead of him so he kept a wide course.

He hit the front between the lower bends and came right away to score easily in the end in a good 29.34 -30 slow.

Piercestown Lord has been running in a tough grade in recent races, but his turn came on Thursday, with a slight ease in grade making the difference as he raced to a clear three lengths win in 29.24 -30 slow.

Another to return to winning ways was Motte Molly in race five as she got away well and ran out a snug winner in a fast 28.89 -30 slow. When she gets away like that she is tough to beat. The slight ease in grade also helped, and she was in total control from trap rise.

The April Stakes are due to get under way this Thursday for A2/3 racers, and it should be a great night’s racing.

The Red Mills Easter Unraced Sweepstake is due to start next Monday, April 8, a hot stake with some top pups likely to be on show.
