HURLING/CAMOGIE TRAINING

With the stretch in the evenings and the extra hour, Monageer-Boolavogue GAA and camogie clubs are offering hurling fun and games each Monday from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for their youngest members. Starting from Monday next, April 8, there will be trining for under-six and under-seven boys and girls and under-eight girls and everyone is welcome to come along and join in. Parents are more than welcome to stay around and enjoy the spectacle and the clubs would ask that parents of under-six participan­ts remain at the pitch during these times. It’s healthy, it’s fantastic fun and hugely enjoyable so do come along and join in.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

On Saturday night, the sixth. And Sunday morning April 7, there will be a church gate collection outside St Cormac’s Church in aid of ‘Fighting Blindness’. All support will be gratefully appreciate­d. If you could help at the collection­s, please contact 087 9256769 for details.

GAA NEWS

On Saturday, March 23, the under-13 hurlers had a date with destiny when they took on Coill Dubh of Kildare in Bray in the final of the Leinster League hurling tournament. After a tough, keenly contested game, they emerged victorious, starting their season with a trophy.

EASTER SPORTS CAMP

There are less than three weeks to go till the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA and camogie Easter Camp opens for boys and girls between six and 13 years of age.

The cost is only €25 per child, €40 for two siblings and €50 for three or more from the same family. The camp will focus on hurling, camogie and football skills as well as rounders and athletics. GAA LOTTO

Tonight, Tuesday, April 2, the draw for the €6,100 jackpot in the Monageer-Boolavogue draw takes place in the club complex in Monageer at 9.30 p.m. But you do not have to leave your own house to buy a ticket as they are available online on the clubforce. com website. Please let family and friends abroad know that they can continue to support the club’s fortnightl­y draw and help develop facilities for the upcoming generation­s of GAA players.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD.

On Saturday, April 6, at the Vigil Mass, Éinín Rossiter is the Eucharisti­c Minister on duty with Georgina Gahan acting as Minister for the Word. Dorothy Hall will help distribute Holy Communion while James Breen will be reading on Sunday morning at the 11 a.m. Mass.

BIGGEST LOSER

On Sunday, March 25, the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA 8km/4.5km Walk-Run, one of the fundraiser­s in their ‘Biggest Loser’ fundraiser took place. Conall Cooper was first home in the 8km run with Larry Murphy and Eoin Dolan not far behind. Michaela Hawkins was the first lady home with Órla Stafford and Anne Stafford in second and third place. Shane Codd was first in the 4.5km event while Colm O’Loughlin and Matt Butler were in second and third places. Well done to all who took part and the club would like to thank all those who acted as stewards or helped in any way whatsoever.

SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday, March 23, the under-16 St Cormac’s team recorded a good 4-0 win away to Ballymurn. On Sunday, playing away to Wexford Bohemians in the Divisional Cup in what was their final game of the season the St Cormac’s ladies’ team were very unlucky to lose by 2-3.

In the league, the men’s ‘A’ team collected the points with a 2-1 win. Brendan ‘Frikki’ Burke put them ahead near the break only to have the hosts draw level early in the second half. Mark Walsh got the all-important last score following great work from mid-field.

The ‘B’ team were playing hosts to Wexford Celtic and after a slow start went on to win by 5-0. One from Glenn McEvoy, two from Seán Walsh and one each from Ger Daly and Liam Walsh gave them their best result of the season.

Before and after all the Masses on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, you can buy lines for the Easter Raffle in aid of St Cormac’s Church. First prize is a Tower Health Fryer, second is 20 litres of hydraulic oil, third is a hamper form McCauley’s Chemist, fourth is a bottle of Scotch whisky, fifth is a bottle of Jameson Whiskey, sixth is a bottle of gin, seventh is a pair of wellington boots, eight is a Dixies fleece pullover, ninth prize is vouchers for Toymaster, tenth is a voucher for the Courtyard in Ferns, eleventh prize is two bottles of wine, twelfth is five litres of engine oil, thirteenth is a bottle of red wine, fourteenth is a bottle of white wine, fifteenth is a clock, sixteenth is a box of sweets and the final prize, the seventeent­h is a tin of biscuits. The lines are only €2 each or three for €5. Your generous support would be very much appreciate­d.

FR MURPHY CENTRE INVITATION

With the return of the delightful spring weather, you might like to stroll around the Fr Murphy Centre which is open seven days a week from now till late November. Centre is open from 10.30 a.m. till 5 p.m. each weekday and from 11.30 a.m. till 5 p.m. at the weekends.
