Hope & Dream 10 surpasses €1m mark in money raised as record crowd of 2,440 come together for a remarkable event

THE organisers of this year’s Hope and Dream 10 fundraiser in Enniscorthy have confirmed that last weekend the overall amount of money raised through the annual event, since it began in 2012, surpassed €1m.

While the exact figure raised from this year’s run will be revealed in a couple of weeks time the organisers told this newspaper that at 3 p.m. on Friday the amount of money taken in had exceeded the magic €1m mark.

This year also saw the largest ever number of participants with 2,440 people heading off from the starting point on the Promenade on Sunday. The organisers said that on every level, this year was the most successful in the event’s history.

While the exact figure from this year’s event will be revealed in a couple of weeks time the organisers said that at 3 p.m. on Friday the amount of money taken in had exceeded €1m.

This year saw the largest ever number of participants with 2,440 people heading off from the starting point on the Promenade.

One of the organisers, Michael Jordan, said it took around 15 minutes for the participants to all pass the starting point.

‘It was perfect in every way,’ said Mr Jordan.

‘We couldn’t have hoped for better weather and the number of people who took part was just incredible,’ he added.

There was a great buzz around the event this year and Mr Jordan said that the excitement it creates is one of the reasons why many people participate in it repeatedly.

One of the great things about the event is the high regard in which the organisers are held and participants know that all the money raised will go towards the Hope Cancer Support centre and Wexford Hospice.

Mr Jordan said both organisations are very worthy recipients.

‘They do incredible work and don’t get any state funding so the money they get from the event is very important but it’s put to extremely good use,’ he said.

He thanked everyone involved making the event a success including the committee and organisations like the Gardai, Slaney Search and Rescue, the Red Cross and volunteers marshals and stewards.
