OYLEGATE-GLENBRIEN SHELMALIERS 6-15 0-6

OYLEGATE-GLENBRIEN sauntered to a second successive win in Group B of the Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior football championship after a facile 6-15 to 0-6 victory over a weak Shelmaliers second-string in Saturday’s tie in Camolin.

It only took 43 seconds for the victors to find the net for the first time when they knitted together a short handpassing routine and Jack Reck provided the finish.

The ball dribbled off Peter Nolan’s break for Podge Doran to kick over on seven minutes, while Jim White’s nice pass inside was converted by Nolan as they built up a head of steam without too much resistance.

The lively Jody Donohoe opened Shelmaliers’ account on 14 minutes, but Oylegate-Glenbrien broke up the field in the next attack and Peter Nolan fed Conor Nolan to dink neatly to the net.

Donohoe transferred from his right boot on to his left to respond with a point for the Shels, and also swooped on a mis-directed kick-out for another, but Oylegate-Glenbrien opened up 3-4 to 0-3 daylight at half-time when Shane Reck was found by Jack Reck, and the county hurler tucked home with an inventive finish.

Oylegate-Glenbrien began the second-half in similar fashion to the first when Podge Doran fisted home their fourth goal from the first attack on the re-start.

He also pointed off the ground on 33 minutes, while Seamus Casey made it 4-6 to 0-3 one minute later.

Liam Rockett linked up with John Forde to peg a point back for the losers, but they were outscored by 2-9 to 0-2 before the end as they suffered a second heavy defeat in the space of six days.

Oylegate-Glenbrien continued to work quick moves up front, and they cut Shelmaliers open again at the end of the third quarter when Conor Nolan palmed to the empty net.

Jim White landed a brace to bring his personal tally to 0-4, while substitute Pierce Murphy completed a rudimentary win with a close-range finish from the last kick of the game.
