LOCAL ELECTIONS

The elections for the new Local Electoral Areas will be held on Friday, May 24, and Boolavogue has two locals standing for the new Kilmuckrid­ge electoral area. Current County councillor Pip Breen, who hails from Knockavocc­a, is once again standing for Fianna Fáil. Edel Gahan, née Jordan, who lives in Barmona, is standing for Fine Gael. She will be launching her campaign in Kelly’s of the Harrow, on Friday, April 12, starting at 8.30 p.m. and everyone is invited along. Siobhán Britton and Nicola Doyle, volunteers with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, would like to thank all those who supported their recent fundraisin­g bingo in Oulart, in aid of nine young adults with additional needs who will be travelling to Lourdes later in the month. POKER CLASSIC

The annual Monageer-Boolavogue Poker Classic will be held in Monageer Hall on Good Friday, April 19, starting at 9 p.m. As usual, there will be great prizes and refreshmen­ts will be served throughout the tournament.

GOLF CLASSIC

Please keep a space in your diary for the Monageer-Boolavogue golf classic which will take place on Friday, July 12. More details will be available later.

LITTLE HEROES HURLING/ CAMOGIE TRAINING.

The GAA and camogie clubs have started fun training sessions for under-six and under-seven boys and under-eight girls from 6.30 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. every Monday evening. Parents, especially those of the under-six boys and girls are asked to remain in the field and see their ‘Little Heroes’ learn new skills in a fun filled, hugely enjoyable training session.

GAA NEWS

Well done to the Monageer-Boolavogue camogie team which drew with Loreto Gorey in a thrilling Rackard League match on Wednesday, April 3.

EASTER SPORTS CAMP

The GAA and camogie clubs’ Easter Sports Camp, which takes place on Monday the 15th., Tuesday the 16th. And Wednesday, April 17, still has a few place remaining for boys or girls between six and 13 years of age. The cost is only €25 per child, €40 for two siblings and €50 for three or more from the same family. The camp will focus on hurling, camogie and football skills as well as rounders and athletics. GAA LOTTO

The jackpot in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto continues to climb and now stands at €6,200. The next draw will take place in the New Clubhouse in Monageer on Tuesday next, April 16, at 9.30 p.m.

In the last draw, on Tuesday, April 2, 7, 8, 23 and 29 were the numbers drawn.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday, April 13, at the Vigil Mass, Aodhagán Swords is Minister for the Word. Then on Sunday the 14th., Palm Sunday, Gaye Gahan and Rika O’Neill will be reading at the 11 a.m. Mass.

SOCCER NEWS

The men’s ‘ B’ team played their second last game of the season away to Wexford Celtic on Sunday, March 31, and despite dominating play, went in level pegging, 0-0, at the break. Two goals from Eoin Murphy, a smashing volley and a diving header had us 2-0 ahead soon afer the resumption. A Jack White pass to Liam Walsh set him up for the third goal and the game finished 3-0. The under-13s were away to Moyne Rangers the previous day and went in 0-2 down at the break. Callum Byrne with a long range shot, pulled one back in the second half and despite the team’s best efforts the game finished 1-2.

SOCCER SUMMER CAMP

St Cormac’s are hosting a summer soccer camp from July 8 to July 12. Costing €70, participan­ts will get five days of fun, an exclusive summer soccer camp kit, a football and a backpack. There is a €10 discount for siblings and you can book a place by logging on to summersocc­erschools.ie.

EASTER RAFFLE

Before and after all the Masses on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, you can buy lines for the Easter Raffle in aid of St Cormac’s Church.

CELEBRATIN­G 60 YEARS

Boolavogue National School’s fifth and sixth. class helped the school’s parents’ associatio­n stage a display of photograph­s marking 60 years since pupils moved into the ‘new’ school in 1959.

The current pupils had sourced many photograph­s of the former pupils for a booklet they published as part of their entry for the Junior Entrepeneu­r competitio­n lately.

The display was open from 11.30 a.m. till 3.30 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, and refreshmen­ts were served for the many former pupils who dropped in to view the photograph­s.
