-

THE students in FCJ Bunclody are well aware of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and that fact came very much to the fore throughout the last week.

The school celebrated its long established promotion of health living, fitness, and mental health awareness with a number of activities and initiatives involving students and staff members.

The week-long programme of events including having guest speakers visit the school to speak to everyone including people involved with Wexford GAA and Health 3.0.

The entire school population took part in a 3-legged companionship afternoon walk in addition to lunchtime pilates classes.

There was also a First Year PE dance-off and a fun afternoon initiative involving Second Year students.

A spokesperson for the school said a popular event was a trip to the Cycle Against Suicide national congress event in the 3 Arena in Dublin which saw 80 students from FCJ travel to the capital.

They were entertained by The Academic and Kodaline while also giving their own bit of support to the FCJ CAS student ambassadors who performed in front of 6,000 young people at the event.

‘Students were treated to free water and smoothies, as well as milk and fruit each day,’ said the school spokesperson.

The school acknowledged the support it received throughout the week from the support and sponsorship of local businesses including: Pettitt’s SuperValu, Enniscorthy; O’Reilly’s SuperValu, Bunclody; Strathroy Dairies; and Patrick Rooney, of Eurospar Bunclody.

The school spokesperson thanked everyone who supported the week long programme who helped make it a great success.

He also said the activities are of significant importance in the daily lives of young people in the school.
