OVER 100 LOCAL BUSINESSES IN CONTENTION

OVER 100 businesses from across Co Wexford are ready to battle it out in the annual County Wexford Business Awards. With nearly 20 awards up for grabs, excitement is building to find out who will walk away with top honours.

The awards shortlist was announced last week and 100 businesses will now go forward to the final interview stage which will take place in Clayton Whites Hotel tomorrow ( Wednesday). Judges will score each applicatio­n on multiple criteria and runners-up and winners will be selected across 18 categories.

The winner of the prestigiou­s Overall County Wexford Business of the Year Award will be chosen from the winners in each award category.

The judging panel will consist of two judges per category, one of whom will be a representa­tive of the category sponsor and one a master in the field from organisati­ons such as the IDA, Small Firms Associatio­n, National Standards Associatio­n, BAM Ireland, IT Carlow, the EPA and WIT.

The 2019 shortlist includes both names that have featured and won awards in the past and complete newcomers. Now in its 11th year, the awards take place in partnershi­p with Wexford County Council, The Wexford People, Wexford Chamber, Gorey Chamber, New Ross Chamber.

‘We were absolutely delighted with the broad range of business submission­s for the awards this year,’ said President of Wexford Chamber, Graham Scallan. ‘ The support we have from businesses across the County in terms of applicatio­ns and sponsorshi­p has been phenomenal. The very best of luck to everybody, you are all winners insofar as Wexford Chamber is concerned.’

The winners are set to be revealed at a black tie gala awards ceremony in Clayton Whites Hotel on Friday, May 24. The event is to be hosted by broadcaste­r, businessma­n and former politician Ivan Yates with music by Divine Invention.
