STAGE IS SET FOR SISTER ACT

- By BRENDAN KEANE

THE official launch of this year’s production by Enniscorthy Musical Society has taken place and the show, Sister Act, looks set to be one of the most entertaining the society has ever staged.

This year’s production, which will be the 46th show put on by the society, was launched in the Bailey and everyone involved is very excited as rehearsals are going very well.

The society’s main sponsor is Enniscorthy Credit Union, as it has been for 10 years, and that fact was acknowledged during the launch at which the special guest was celebrity chef, Edward Hayden.

For the show the society has retained last year’s production team which is composed of: Imelda McDonagh (Director); Kevin Kennedy (Musical Director), and Ann Marie Cooney (Choreographer).

It’s the same team that helped the society win AIMS (Association of Irish Musical Societies) acclaim for the production of ‘All Shook Up’.

Among the stars of the forthcoming show will be Ashley Doran, who received the runner up award in the AIMS Best Comedienne category, and James Dobbs who won the Best Comedian category.

The society enjoys a formidable reputation for excellence in terms of the quality of its productions and last year it won the cameo competition at the AIMS choral festival.

At the launch Mr Hayden, who is no stranger to the stage himself, highlighted the contribution the society has made to the cultural life of Enniscorthy over the last 46 years.

He emphasised that Sister Act is likely to go down a storm with the audience.

The society’s President, Liz Armstrong and Chairperson, James Dobbs, also spoke at the launch and emphasised not just how well the rehearsals were going but also how much everyone is looking forward to the show.

Director Imelda McDonagh also availed of the opportunity to introduce the cast.

Enniscorthy Musical Society is at the heart of the community in the town and that fact was also highlighted at the launch.

Sister Act will be staged in Coláiste Bríde secondary school from Tuesday, April 23, to Saturday, April 27.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. each night and tickets are now available from www. ticketsource.eu.
