Red Cross sets sights on a busy year ahead

- By BRENDAN KEANE

FOLLOWING on from a very busy 2018, the recent annual general meeting of Enniscorthy’s Red Cross branch saw the focus of attention switch to the coming year.

Expectations are high that this year will also be a busy one for the members who regularly offer their services to various community events and festivals.

At the meeting the following officers were elected for the coming year: Chairperson - Olive Lett; Vice- Chairperson - Karen Sullivan; Secretary - Paddy Redmond; Treasurer - Paul O’Meara and PRO - Sally Flynn.

Ms Lett welcomed those in attendance to the meeting and she outlined some of the activities that took place throughout the last year.

The members were told that ongoing CFR (Cardiac First Responder) courses were going well and proving extremely popular.

The organisation provides a number of different courses each year and at the meeting an emphasis was placed on recruitment; new members are always welcome to join and can find out more about the organisation by going along to the training nights each Wednesday in St John’s Hospital.

The hospital management and staff were thanked at the meeting for the use of the day care centre facilities.

The unit officer, Catriona Whelan, expressed gratitude to all of the volunteers who help the organisation throughout the year.

The organisation plans to hold a number of different courses over the coming months and details of those will be published in the Enniscorthy Guardian.
