Boxer punched and kicked his ex wife in ‘deplorable’ act
THE behaviour of a man who punched his wife was branded deplorable by Judge Brian O’Shea.
Pleas of guilty to assault on the woman were entered by Trevor Kinsella with an address at 13 Chapelwood in Kilmuckridge.
Chloe Kinsella told gardaí who called to a domestic incident at Gimont Avenue in Enniscorthy that she had been pushed, boxed and kicked.
Solicitor Macarten O’Gorman noted that his client was married to the injured party at the time.
However, Kinsella was now in a new relationship and had a young child with his current partner.
Mr O’Gorman offered an assurance that the defendant had taken the matter seriously.
A man who tended to bottle up his feelings, he had entered counselling.
The judge responded that the court had very little time for those who assault their wives.
A probation report revealed that Chloe Kinsella had been given a difficult diagnosis and she had also suffered the death of her mother around the time of the offence.
The judge felt it beggared belief that she was assaulted by the one person she should have been able to rely on.
The fact that Kinsella was a boxer, and had been boxing since he was a boy, was noted by the court.
It was further noted, on the other hand, that not only did he go for counselling with MEND, he was also referred for anger management sessions by probation staff.
Consecutive two month sentences were marked, the four months suspended on the basis that he will continue to work with the probation staff.
