Fundraiser for brownies is big success

-

THE Church Institute on Church Street in Enniscorthy was the venue for a special fundraising event last week

The coffee morning initiative, which included a book and toy sale, was very well attended.

It was held to raise money for the Enniscorthy brownies and the organisers were delighted with the response from the public.

The brownies in Enniscorthy have been going for 25 years and they meet every Thursday at the Friends Meeting room in Spring Valley, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The group now has three different sections: ladybirds; brownies and guides.

One of those involved with the fundraiser, committee member, Caroline Steacy, said the event was very successful.

‘We had a very good crowd on the day and we are very appreciative of the support we receive from the general public,’ she said.

It raised €440 for the organisation, which offers a wide range of activities to its members.

The fact the event was held in the Church Institute was also fitting as Ms Steacy pointed out.

‘It’s great to have the Church Institute for things like this because it’s a great little venue for the town,’ she said.

‘It’s very good for the parish to be able to use and we were delighted to have it for the fundraiser,’ she added.

Local people donated toys and books to the event which were offered for sale on the day.

It was a very informal and relaxed initiative where people were made feel at ease. In addition to tea and coffee those in attendance were also able to avail of some tasty treats while they perused the books and toys.

The fundraiser also offered those who are interested in getting their daughter involved an opportunity to chat with committee members including: Emily Warren; Sarah Beale; Caroline Steacy; Gillian Masterson and helper, Yvonne.

They were able to outline to visitors some of the many activities the organisation is involved in.

Anyone interesting in enrolling their daughter can do so by contacting Ms Warren on 087-3667525.
