Songwriter Mick Comerford to launch new country album
THE Presentation Centre in Enniscorthy will provide the venue for an album launch by one of Co Wexford’s most popular musicians on Thursday, May 2.
Enniscorthy based Mick Comerford will launch his ‘Reuben James’ album with a little help from his good friend Stephen Murphy.
Among the special guests on the night will be Ann Dreelan, Mag Murphy, and Mick’s daughter, Eve Comerford, who is a formidable musician in her own right.
Speaking to this newspaper about the album Mick said it’s a 16-track mix of American styled country songs.
Originally from Waterford his first foray into the world of music was as a teenager with rock bands in his native city.
However, he moved to Enniscorthy in 1992 and has been a stalwart of the local music scene here ever since.
The new album was recorded with local recording studio engineer and musician Ivan Levingstone at the helm and it comes in the wake of Mick’s debut release, ‘Drops of Brandy’, the title track from which was a big hit on local radio.
Mick has also written a number of original songs although the new album is packed with well-known standards, albeit interpreted in his own way.
The album was produced by another well known Wexford musician, Leslie Dunne, and for anyone with an interest in top quality, uptempo country music and a good night out the launch night should tick all of the boxes.
The cost of admission will be €15 and doors will open at 7.30 p.m. with the music due to begin at 8 p.m.
