Seconds under the spotlight in decider

-

THE RELENTLESS season for Enniscorthy continues this weekend when the second team face Ashbourne in the Provincial Towns Seconds Cup final in Wicklow on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. Terry Kavanagh took on responsibility for the second string this season and, after a shaky start, they have had a terrific campaign. They were pipped to the Leinster League title by their opponents next Saturday, Ashbourne.

A lot of the players in action next Saturday have had first team experience, particularly out-half Jack Kelly who is an accomplished footballer with good feet and plays a solid running game.

He has young Cloughbawn man Billy Wickham inside him at number 9. Rapparees-Starlights hurler and footballer Mel Doyle returned to rugby this season after taking a break, and he is a solid fixture there.

Front row forwards Conal Kavanagh, James Doyle and Jamie Barron have tasted first team experience at different stages in recent weeks.

Lee Treacy and Oisín Cullen in the back row have been flawless, and Brian Beale in the second row forms a dynamic unit with Liam Stamp.

Jim White is another talented player who has played in the forwards and the backs and he too has been on the first team bench in the last couple of weeks.

Ronan Doyle, David Shore and Adam Gethings are excellent attackers when given a chance.

Add in the experience of Hughie O’Neill, Ronnie White, Tom Farrar, Fiacre Ryan, Pat Doyle and the youth of Brendan Kearney and Michael Farrell, and it makes for a potent force.
