Decent results for locals in Mondello
THE DUNLOP Masters Superbike Championship in Mondello Park started on April 6 and 7, and local riders Kevin Dempsey, Graham Whitmore, his brother Thomas Whitmore, and Mark Codd with his passenger Liam Gordon, took to the tarmac and began the season with some decent results.
Kevin Dempsey had fifth and second places, while Graham Whitmore had two fifths and a third place finish.
Thomas Whitmore, after a long lay-off, started his campaign off with a twelfth, eighth and sixth place.
Mark Codd and Liam Gordon started the season off well whilst gaining valuable track time before their big venture to the Isle of Man where they will pit their skills against some great sidecar racers on a 37.73 mile track which will test them and their machine to the limit.
Speeds in sidecar racing around the course can reach a mind-blowing 191.914 km/h.
The team consists of bike builder Mick Donovan, driver Mark Codd, passenger Liam Gordon, team manager Aidan McCarthy and mechanic Sam Wright, with the engines being built by Graham Kennedy.
This will be a huge undertaking by the team as none of them have experienced the TT as racers before.
The amount of preparation needed is unreal, with fitness being one of the most important aspects to be able to withstand the unbelievable toll on the body and mind during a race.
Mark Codd is a fireman from Enniscorthy and Liam Gordon is a mechanic from Castlebridge .
Aidan McCarthy and Sam Wright hail from Cork, and our very own road racing star, Graham Kennedy, is from Wexford.
