Trainer Anglim enjoys first and last race double in Enniscorthy

-

THE SECOND round of the Enniscorthy April Stake saw some very fast clocks recorded at Enniscorthy dog track on Thursday.

Again it was Ketch Up Bella, owned by the Whitmill syndicate, Wexford, who set the standard with a flying run in heat one.

Showing her blistering early pace, she led her field a merry dance, racing home a five and a half lengths clear winner in a very fast 28.67 -30 slow.

She has been very impressive so far, but she faces trap six in her semi-final and this could be a tricky trap for her to overcome. Nonetheless, she is the one to beat.

First semi-final: trap one, Ninja Penny; trap two, Philitiger; trap three, Overall; trap four, Blitzem Bill; trap five, Gareths Star; trap six, Sheilas Machine.

Second semi-final: trap one, Last Minute Lady; trap two, Telex Brat; trap three, Rathsilla Alli; trap four, Shelone Castle; trap five, Rocket Turbo; trap six, Ketch Up Bella.

Trainer Joe Anglim had a good night also with a first and last race double.

Sand Hawk took race one when breaking well and being always in control to win by a length and a half in a good 29.16 -30 slow.

In race eight his Tullycanna Dot held off the challenge of Nettle Soup by three-quarters of a length over the 550 yards trip in a time of 30.64 -30 slow.

The Red Mills Easter Unraced first round was run on Monday, with some nice youngsters on show.

Heat one saw a good effort from Clare’s Tavern who came through to score snugly in the end in a useful 29.32 -30 slow.

Heat five went to the John Doyle-owned Kiltrea Dawn who left the field in her wake from the get go to run out an easy winner in a time of 29.45 -30 slow.

Heat seven went to Ninja Nagato who represents last year’s winning connections and who looks like he will give them a good chance of lifting this prestigious prize again this time. He got into top gear down the back to streak clear up the home straight to win by nine lengths in a time of 29.32 -30 slow, and I feel there is a lot more to come from this fellow.

The second round will be run this week and there should be some improvers also to come through as pups running green should be better for their outing.
