School girls League round-up

Under-12 Division 1 has all the ingredients of being an extremely tight division, with both games played resulting in 1-1 draws.

Julie Morrissey was on target for Cushinstown and Mikayla Tobin-Cosgrave scored for Tombrack in their draw, while Aoife O’Connor scored for Shelburne in their draw with Fastnet, with Lily McLoughlin on target for Rovers.

Izzy Kenna scored five for Courtown to move them top of Division 2A as they proved too strong for All Blacks’ second team, running out 6-1 winners.

Caithlin Breen scored the other goal for Hibs while Tess Clooney replied for All Blacks.

Aoibheann Downey scored a spectacular goal for New Ross Town seconds as they overcame Bree by that solitary goal.

In Division 2B, Ava O’Gorman was on target for Adamstown but it was not enough against a strong Corach Ramblers side who ran out 5-1 winners courtesy of two goals from Sophie Power and one each from Sophie Wickham, Alicia Roche and Róisín Wall.

St. Leonards made it two wins from two games in Division 3 as goals from Katie Ryan and Courtney Whelan saw them overcome Rosslare Rangers 2-0, while an impressive five goals from Hallie Doyle led to Kilmore beating Oylegate United 5-0.

Forth Celtic 2nds also won 5-0 as they travelled to Bridge Rovers 2nds, with Amy Power, Aoibhe Murphy, Jenna Ryan and two from Ellen O’Brien making up their tally.

Gay nor Cup qualifier results

The Wexford Under-13 Schoolgirls’ Gaynor Cup squad comfortably qualified for the competition proper when a 3-0 win over North East Counties League gave them their second win of the group and a comfortable mid-table finish.

After playing into a gale-force wind in the first-half, Wexford took control in the second-half and goals from Emma Rossiter, Emma Cullen and Pollyanna Calvin saw them pick up the three points they needed to ensure qualification.

Life was not so easy for the Under-15 side who also played the North East Counties League and had to wait for the result from the M.G.L. versus Midlands game before they knew their fate.

In a ding-dong battle, the visitors took the lead before Zoe Katus quickly brought the sides level, only for the N.E.C. to go back in front early in the second-half.

A Katie Law penalty brought Wexford back level but a wellstruck free-kick minutes from the end saw the North East side run out 3-2 winners.

This result had dropped Wexford out of the top four and an automatic qualification spot, but news eventually filtered through that the M.G.L. game had ended 2-2 which resulted in Wexford booking their place in Limerick on goal difference.

Well done to both squads and management teams who worked tirelessly through a long qualification campaign and will now begin the process of preparing for the tournament proper.
