COUNTY WEXFORD’S LOCAL ELECTIONS CANDIDATES

Kathleen Codd-Nolan, Fine Gael

Tombrick, Ballycarne­y Cllr Kathleen Codd

Nolan was first elected to the local authority in 2004 and she will be hoping to retain her Couinty Council seat for Fine Gael in the Enniscorth­y

Municipal District area.

Married to Jim, Cllr Codd-Nolan, created her own bit of history when she became the first woman to serve a full term as Chairperso­n of Wexford County Council and she was also the Vice- Chairperso­n in 2012-2013.

She is involved with numerous local charities in a voluntary capacity and is an active fundraiser for organisati­ons like the Hope Centre in Enniscorth­y.

Passionate about her area and county she says that if re-elected she will ‘represent the people within her local electoral area in whatever capacity is required of her’.

John O’Rourke, Independen­t

Ross Road, Enniscorth­y Cllr John O’Rourke has been a member of the local authority in the Enniscorth­y area since 1999.

First elected under the Fianna Fail banner he left the party after a year and has campaigned successful­ly as an independen­t councillor since then.

He served as Vice- Chairperso­n and his community involvemen­t has seen him work in the area of mental health awareness.

He is a founder member of Touched by Suicide and Beneath My Angel Wings.

He is also a GAA and soccer coach and is involved with meals-on-wheels.

From the Ross Road Cllr O’Rourke has four siblings and if re-elected he says he will continue to ‘do the work I have done over the last 20 years’.

AnnetteByr­ne-Moran, Independen­ts 4ChangeGre­enville Lane, Enniscorth­y

Annette Byrne-Moran is a local election candidate who is part of the Independen­ts 4

Change movement.

A businesswo­man, wife, and mother-oftwo, she is ‘a proud Enniscorth­y woman’ who has operated a florists in Court Street for 17 years.

Since 2011 she has spearheade­d a number of different campaigns locally and fights for equality for everyone while also fighting against austerity measures such as water charges and the household tax.

As part of her election manifesto she has highlighte­d that ‘ordinary citizens are still suffering’.

If elected she says she wants to help ‘as many people as I can’ through fairer policies. Ms Byrne-Moran also wants to turn the new bypass into an opportunit­y rather than a challenge for Enniscorth­y.

Aidan Browne, Fianna Fáil

Gort Na Greine, Enniscorth­y AIDAN Browne will be contesting this year’s local elections as a

Fianna Fail candidate in the Enniscorth­y electoral area.

A married fatherof-two, Mr Browne, lives in Enniscorth­y town but was born and educated in Marshalsto­wn.

He comes from a well known political dynasty; he is a nephew of former TD, John Browne, while his first cousin is current sitting TD, James Browne. Mr Browne works for Enniscorth­y EVC having previously worked at Castle Gardens Nursing Home.

He is a keen sports enthusiast and is the current manager of Moyne Ranger’s first team. With regard to his campaign, he said: ‘I am running for local Government because I believe that local Government should work for you and our community.’

Johnny Mythen, Sinn Féin

Ballyorril, Enniscorth­y Cllr Johnny Mythen is hoping to retain his Sinn Fein seat in the Enniscorth­y municipal district area.

First elected to the district’s local authority in 2009 he was elected to

Wexford County

Council in 2014.

He was a member of the Wexford District 1916 commemorat­ion committee and is currently on the Economic and Developmen­t Enterprise special policy committee and sub-committees for mental health and Rosslare Europort.

In 2016 he lost out on winning a seat in the general election by just 31 votes.

He worked for the ESB and played with Starlights GAA club, Enniscorth­y Town A.F.C. and Enniscorth­y Rugby Club.

He and his partner, Barbara, have been together for over 21 years and have five children.

Keith Doyle, Fianna Fáil

Weafer Street, Enniscorth­y Cllr Keith Doyle is hoping to retain his

Fianna Fail. A member of Enniscorth­y

Municipal District

Council, he has been involved in local politics for 25 years.

Educated in the Presentati­on Convent, Enniscorth­y and Castleknoc­k College,

Dublin, he is the current Chairperso­n of Wexford County Council - to which he was elected in 2009.

His role as Cathaoirle­ach saw him follow in the footsteps of his late father Andy Doyle who served from 1974 to 1975.

Cllr Doyle is the manager of Astor TV rentals in Enniscorth­y.

He also has a keen interest in sport and is an official GAA umpire. If elected he pledges to continue working for the betterment of the people of Enniscorth­y and County Wexford.

Barbara-Anne Murphy, Fianna Fáil

Ballinavoc­ran, Bunclody Cllr Barbara-Anne

Murphy will be hoping to retain her seat on Wexford

County Council for

Fianna Fail. She has been a member of the local authority for 10 years, from 2004 to

2009, and from 2014 to present day.

Cllr Murphy holds a

BSc in politics and human geography and works as a community employment scheme supervisor.

She is a board member of Waterford Wexford Education and Training Board; Bunclody Vocational College, Enniscorth­y Vocational College and Kennedy College, New Ross. Passionate about Bunclody she has been instrument­al in securing investment in the town.

If elected she says she will continue her work to promote jobs; increase tourism; ensure quality housing is provided for everyone, and improve community facilities.

Jackser Owens, Independen­t

Moran Park, Enniscorth­y Jackser Owens is hoping to reignite a political career in Enniscorth­y that stretches back to 1994 when he first secured a seat on the local authority.

Having successful­ly campaigned each local election since then, until 2014, he hopes to regain his council seat this year.

Married to Lilly, the couple have four daughters and one son.

Actively involved in his local community Mr Owens is chairperso­n of Enniscorth­y United AFC and played with the town team and with Ajax.

He is a former chairperso­n of the Horseshoe Pitchers Associatio­n of Ireland.

Proud of his Enniscorth­y heritage he has lived in Moran Park since 1978.

If elected he pledges to work help develop Enniscorth­y and the district to its full potential.

Cathal Byrne, Fine Gael

Brookhill, Ballyhogue Cathal Byrne is a

27-year-old apprentice solicitor who is contesting the local election this year for

Fine Gael.

He is the eldest son of Peter and Theresa

Byrne.

Mr Byrne was educated in Kiltealy

National School,

Boolavogue National

School and in FCJ Bunclody.

He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, with an Hons Degree in Law and Business and a Masters in Law.

He has worked in an Enniscorth­y solicitor’s office for three years and will qualify next year. A keen sports fan he plays for Ballyhogue GAA club and Castledock­rell United F.C.

If elected he says his priorities will include: job creation; roads, housing and planning policy; tourism promotion and assisting people and organisati­ons throughout the Enniscorth­y district.

Gerald O’Donoghue, Renua

Davidstown, Enniscorth­y Gerald O’Donoghue is contesting the local elections in the Enniscorth­y municipal district area for Renua.

A native of Davidstown he is the youngest of nine children. Married to

Maura the couple have four children aged between two and six.

A past pupil of St Mary’s CBS he obtained a degree in engineerin­g from Trinity College, Dublin.

After graduating he worked as an engineer with Calor Gas and is now contracted as energy engineer to a national utility company. If elected his focus of attention will be on community owned, high-speed broadband, developing a University of the South East campus in Enniscorth­y and ‘ holding the IDA to account’ for the low number of jobs created in the county.

John ‘Texas’ Byrne, Independen­t

Killanne John ‘ Texas’ Byrne is an independen­t candidate running in the Enniscorth­y district this year.

Originally from

Kiltealy he is now living in Killane.

He is married to

Eileen and the couple have three children.

Mr Byrne has worked all his life and he is passionate about his community. Running for election is something he ‘often thought about’ in the past and he has decided to put his name forward this year.

He says his area has been ‘very much neglected’ and while also critical of the rural road infrastruc­ture he says there isn’t ‘even a footpath from the school to the playground’. If elected he says he will do his best for the people of the county.

Paddy Kavanagh, Fine Gael

Drumgoold Lower, Enniscorth­y Cllr Paddy Kavanagh will hoping to retain his Fine Gael seat on Wexford County

Council as a member of Enniscorth­y

Municipal District

Council.

Self employed, Cllr

Kavanagh is married to Brenda and the couple have three sons: Charlie, Conall and Patrick.

Cllr Kavanagh has been a member of the local authority since 2009.

He was Chairperso­n of Enniscorth­y Municipal District Council from 2015 to 2016 and of Wexford County Council from 2016 to 2017. During his tenure as chairperso­n he secured investment for the Templeshan­non area of Enniscorth­y and says the town ideally located for a third level education hub in Wexford:‘I still believe that is attainable.’

He also secured investment for the technology park currently under constructi­on.
