Theresa and Tony are Screen stars
WHILE Tony and Theresa Kehoe may be more used to being in the spotlight onstage with their country act Theresa and the Stars, over the last number of years they’ve shown they’re not afraid to get their hands dirty either doing sterling work with the ‘Clean Screen Team’.
The village of Screen and its environs have long been hailed as picturesque by motorists passing through, but quite a bit of work goes into keeping it that way. The idea for the Clean Screen Team was actually born from a different group.
‘It was founded back in 2013,’ said Theresa. ‘It actually came out of the panto society. It was the last meeting of the panto society and we were wondering what we could do in the community. At the time there was a lot of rubbish being dumped out on the main road, so we decided to get a few people together and do something about it.’
Nearly six years on, the area is looking better than ever and the group have even scooped three major prizes from the ‘Keep Wexford Beautiful’ campaign. Coming in for particular praise is the area around the old mill at Garrylough, as well as the village itself in which the group have worked tirelessly to keep all of the old buildings looking spick and span.
‘We’ve done a lot of work cleaning on the main road there at Garrylough and doing up the 1798 monument at Ballyfarnogue,’ Theresa explained. ‘Now for our big spring clean, we’re going to be painting up all the vacant buildings around the village and we’ll also be planting flowers and that type of thing.’
The group just recently received a boost after being provided with a new lawnmower and hedge-trimmers by Cllr George Lawlor in order to keep up the good work and he was delighted to see them being put to such good use.
