Fintan to unveil short film ‘Ignatius’
WHILE a relative newcomer to the world of acting, Enniscorthy’s Fintan Kelly has already carved out a significant reputation for himself. Leading the way in several productions by Enniscorthy Drama Group, he’s also enjoyed successful shows in the National Opera House with shows such as ‘A Steady Rain’ and most recently ‘Howie the Rookie’ – a one-man show which he is currently touring around the country.
However, the popular former publican has added another string to his bow of late and on Friday night, he will officially unveil a short film from his own pen, set in and shot around Enniscorthy.
‘Ignatius’ tells the tale of Ignatius Doyle, a family man and local politician who is respected by all in his home town. The film gives a flavour of a day in the life of this character and exposes a darkness that perhaps is not fitting with his squeaky clean public image.
Directed by acclaimed director Ger Walsh, the film boasts a fantastic local cast including Fintan himself in the lead role, Gemma Delaney, Kate Breen, Rónán P Byrne, Paul O Reilly, Niall Holohan, Sheelagh Delaney, Liam Doyle, Lorraine Kelly and Fintan’s daughters Jennifer and Mary.
Shot entirely in Enniscorthy, the film features some amazing footage of the town, particularly capturing an eerie fog overlooking the town at dusk from Vinegar Hill.
‘Ignatius’ will have its official launch at The Presentation Centre this Friday, with a drinks reception at 7 p.m. followed by the screening at 8 p.m. This will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew, hosted by director Laura Way whose credits include Eastenders and Red Rock. Tickets are priced at €10 and it promises to be a great night of entertainment.
