Community celebrates fifty years of Court NS
CROWDS of young and old gathered together at Court National School in Monamolin, on Friday, April 12, to celebrate 50 years of activities both inside and outside the classroom amongst the community at the school.
During the celebrations, children took part in singing as part of the music generation programme, and the school unveiled a new school crest, that was designed by students in the school.
The school also opened a special memory garden, to honour the memory of the late school principal, Mrs Magella Murphy.
Her name was placed in a gold plaque on a brand new bench, made possible by the efforts of the community in Monamolin.
Principal of Court National School, Brendan Roche said that the anniversary was a ‘Huge occasion for the whole school community’ and that history and community are key to how the school is run.
It has been fifty years since Court National School was officially opened under the Catholic ethos, on September 16, 1968.
Seamus Kavanagh was Head Master alongside his second in command, Mrs. Mary McDonald and Mrs. Siobhán (Joan) Doyle as Assistant Teachers.
Mrs Doyle, who retired in 1993, was delighted to be there on the day and even made a speech about her experience, where she taught the junior infants, as well first and second class students at the school for 25 years.
She made a lasting impression on the school community and was honoured during a celebratory ceremony.
