Cloughbawn were in full celebration mode on Sunday after being presented with the Division 4A trophy.
They actually got over the line last Tuesday evening without having to kick a ball, as Enniscorthy Town beat local rivals Enniscorthy United 2-1 to ensure Cloughbawn couldn’t be overhauled.
Kallan Murphy was the match winner for Town, netting a double after Ryan Dwyer had given United the lead.
Adam Lambert, Eoin Furlong and Tommy Cogley got the goals for the champions as they played out a 3-3 draw with Rosslare Port on Wednesday evening, with Paddy Doyle, Scott Walsh and Ricky Troope scoring for the hosts.
The trophy was handed over after their game away to runners-up St. Joseph’s on Sunday, and they finished their campaign in style with a 3-2 victory.
Tommy Cogley, Eoin Furlong and Tom Connors got their goals, with Ryan Hammel and Brendan McCreary replying for Joey’s.
Cloughbawn, with Seán Doyle, Pádraig Doyle and ‘Shanks’ Fortune at the helm, are thoroughly deserving champions as, after losing their second match of the campaign, they went on a nine-game winning run and have never looked back.
Top scorer Eoin Furlong played a major role with a 20-goal haul, but a special mention must also go to centre-back Micko Kehoe, who at 38 is the oldest member of the panel.
