Team mentor’s twelve-week ban
THE WEXFORD G.A.A. disciplinary committee has imposed a three-month ban on a team mentor following an unruly after-match incident.
Shane Dunphy, an Adamstown clubman and mentor with neighbouring Taghmon-Camross, has been suspended for twelve weeks as a result of the row which erupted after his team had beaten Ferns St. Aidan’s in the first round of the Amber Springs/Ashdown Park Hotels Intermediate football championship
At the meeting of the disciplinary committee under the Chairmanship of Aidan O’Leary, they decided to take stern action after dealing with the report of match referee, Brendan Martin.
A Taghmon-Camross player, Stephen O’Gorman, was handed a two-match ban, having been red-carded after the final whistle.
The committee also dealt with the report of referee Seán Whelan into scenes during the Crossabeg-Ballymurn versus Ferns St. Aidan’s All-County Football League game.
However, they surprisingly decided to take no further action. Apparently, those involved were very apologetic following the game, although that is surely the case in most instances of a disciplinary nature when those involved realise they could be facing suspension.
Meanwhile, Oulart-The Ballagh hurler Rory Jacob failed in his appeal against a straight red card.
Jacob was dismissed by referee Brian O’Leary as his side lost their opening round Pettitt’s Senior hurling championship game to neighbours, Oylegate-Glenbrien, and he missed the clash with Rathnure last weekend as a result.
