Flying Ferns see off Kilmore to book final place

Ferns United booked their place in the Neil O’Sullivan Cup final after eventually shaking off the attentions of Kilmore United 5-2 after extra-time.

Conor Jordan, Jonny Dwyer (two), Martin Redmond and Shane Breen scored for the Division 2 title-hopefuls, with Kilmore replying through an own goal and Shane Cassidy.

Ferns will now meet either Adamstown or Cloughbawn in the decider.

North End United certainly won’t be giving up their Premier Division crown without an almighty fight, and on Sunday they earned a massive three points when overcoming Gorey Rangers 4-1.

The north county side took the lead through David Behan, but Paul ‘Spot’ Murphy was the catalyst for a Sky Blues victory as he helped himself to a hat-trick and provided an assist for his brother Jason.

‘Spot’ was also the match-winner for North End on Thursday evening, heading both his side’s goals as they edged out Courtown Hibs 2-1 on the road.

Gorey Rangers overwhelme­d Bridge Rovers 5-1 in Castlebrid­ge on Wednesday evening, with Joe Bolger (two), Craig Foster, Paul Brennan and Dylan Vickers getting their goals in a 5-1 victory.

Bunclody earned a precious three points on Sunday as they saw off Wexford Bohs 2-1 in Drinagh, with Tomás Brennan and Shane Franklin scoring for the winners and Sam O’Neill replying.

Bohs had better luck last Thursday evening, with Andy Moore grabbing the only goal as they eked out a 1-0 win over Forth Celtic in Murrrintow­n.

Meanwhile, Des Wolohan and Yaw Aboagye got the goals for Courtown Hibs as they overcame Corach Ramblers 2-0 in a real relegation dogfight.

Division1

Moyne Rangers lifted themselves out of the bottom three with a hard-fought 3-2 win away to North End United on Sunday.

Aaron Roche and Ashley Houghton hit the back of the net for the hosts, with Lee Jordan, Liam Evans and Peter Marsden scoring for the Enniscorth­y side.

New Ross Town and Tombrack United came away with a point apiece after a 1-1 draw, with Gary Sinnott scoring for the former and Mick Kelly replying.

Elsewhere Cloughbawn and Campile drew 2-2 in the top of the table clash (see focus match).

Division2

Crossabeg dented Glynn Barntown’s title hopes on Sunday as they held them to a 2-2 draw in an entertaini­ng Division 2 clash.

Cian Boggan fired in a free-kick to put Crossabeg ahead, but the league leaders got back on level terms before the break through Robert Dempsey.

Conor Maddock edged the hosts back in front with a beautiful finish, but Glynn-Barntown responded again, with Allen Colegate grabbing the equaliser.

Taghmon United finished their campaign with a 2-1 win over Rosslare Port, with Seamie McLoughlin and Brandon Cullen getting their goals, while Enniscorth­y United ensured Division 2 survival, with Liam Egan and Dylan Groarke hitting the back of the net in a 2-0 win over Curracloe United.

Division3

St. Joseph’s moved into third place in Division 3 with a hardfought away win over Enniscorth­y Town.

Gary O’Leary got the only goal of the game to earn them the three points.

Enniscorth­y Town had picked up a point on Thursday night, when they drew 1-1 with Bunclody.

Division3A

Forth Celtic ensured a three-way battle for the Division 3A title when overcoming Oylegate United 5-3 on Wednesday evening.

Luke White, Aaron Whitty, Michael O’Brien, Jack Roche and Gordon Simpson scored for the Murrrintow­n outfit.

Elsewhere, Wexford Bohs came out on top 5-2 against Ballymurn Celtic, with Stuart Hayden (two), Eddie Pitman, Seán Pailing and Cian Whelan scoring for the winners.

Division4

Gorey Celtic ruined Courtown Hibs’ title aspiration­s on Wednesday evening when overcoming their north county rivals 4-2.

Jake Cassidy helped himself to a hat-trick for the winners, with Edmunds Prudskojs getting their other goal.

The result meant that Rosbercon needed tow pick up a point against Crossabeg on Sunday to clinch the silverware, and they did just that (see focus match).
