Get set for Wellness Week

AS fans eagerly await the start of a new Championsh­ip season, Wexford GAA is aiming to ensure those roaring on from the stands are as healthy as they can possibly be.

‘Wellness Week’, which is run in associatio­n with McCauley Health and Beauty Pharmacy, kicks off this May and the first event will be a family-friendly 5km wellnes run. The run, which is chip timed, will start and finish at Innovate Wexford Park on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

Commenting, Derek Kent, Chairman of Wexford GAA said: ‘Wexford GAA is proud to announce our first 5km wellness run. This represents just the first of several wellness events which we are delighted to be rolling out during Wellness Week. We hope the local community will join us in promoting healthy living while also supporting two very worthy charities.’ The event is being run in associatio­n with McCauley Pharmacy and its CEO, Tony McEntee said: ‘McCauley Pharmacy is proud to be supporting the Wexford GAA Wellness Programme, a cause very personal to me. At McCauley, we understand the importance of physical and mental wellbeing and are pleased to be supporting initiative­s which encourage healthy lifestyles.’

Participat­ion in the 5km wellness run will cost €15 for those who pre-register and €20 to those who show up on the day. Under 18’s will cost €10 in advance or €15 on the day. Alternativ­ely, a family of four (2 adults, 2 children) can register for €30. GAA clubs are welcome to enter teams of four at a cost of €50 or €60 on the day. The first 250 people to register will receive a free t-shirt and all proceeds will go towards charity partners Wexford Marinewatc­h and ItsGood2Ta­lk.

All those who enter will receive a goodie bag and there will be prizes awarded for 1st placed male and female as well as for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams. There will be music and children’s characters on the day and it is sure to be a fun day out for the whole family.

Wexford Wellness week will run from May 6 - 12.
