Sci-fi and fantasy comes to life for annual Cosmic Rebels Con
THE Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy was the venue recently for the third major Cosmic Rebels Con, which is an annual event aimed at fans of sci-fi, fantasy, comics and graphic novels.
Extremely popular, the event was very professionally run and featured a wide range of stalls and vendors.
There were also professional comic book writers and artists in attendance who were happy to chat with visitors about their craft.
The organisers, Ed Doyle and Brian Thomas, always use the event to raise money for local organisations and charities too and this year it raised €1,000 for the new autistic spectrum unit in St Senan’s National School.
The fans who attended fully embraced the event with some of them arriving dressed as their favourite comic book or TV show character.
From characters like ‘Jason’, out of the Halloween films, to ‘Freddie Kreuger’ and aliens, it was an event that had all manner of people present.
However, the enthusiasm and creative ability of the visitors just added to the overall enjoyment of the event for everyone concerned.
For the organisers the annual cosmic con is a true labour of love as they are both comic and sci-fi fans anyway.
‘Cosmic Rebels Con is a labour of love for myself and Brian,’ said Ed, with regard to how the event came about.
The first one was held in November 2017 and since then it has grown each year with an ever increasing loyal fanbase who return each year to participate in one of the few events of its type outside of Dublin.
