Boolavogue CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

A church gate collection in aid of St Patrick’s Special School, Bohreen Hill, Enniscorth­y will be held at weekend Masses in Boolavogue on Saturday April 27 and Sunday, April 28. All money collected will be used in the school to benefit all the special needs pupils. Your generous support would be greatly appreciate­d.

GAA AND CAMOGIE EASTER CAMP

Nearly 90 children took part in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA and camogie clubs Easter camp. Due to the rain on Monday the camp ran from Tuesday to Thursday with great fun and games and skills developmen­t. The club would like to thank all the children, the coaches and the volunteers who made it such a brilliant success.

GAA NEWS

The under-13 hurlers lost by four points to Bunclody, 5-4 to 3-14 in an exciting game away in Bunclody last week. The under-15s also lost, going down to Blackwater in another high scoring game. While Blackwater deserved to win, the final result did not reflect the free flowing, hard hitting entertainm­ent served up by both sides.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD AND EUCHARIST.

Catherine Doran is the reader on duty at the Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m. with Olive Burke helping distribute Holy Communion. At the Mass on Sunday at 11 a.m., Martina Ivory is reading while Kathleen Kehoe is the Minister for the Eucharist.

TRACTOR RUN

Please support the tractor run organised by Solsboroug­h Vintage Club in associatio­n with Boolavogue Foróige Club this Sunday, April 28. The vehicles will be leaving Boolavogue Hall at 12.30 p.m. and participan­ts can register from 11 a.m. All vintage tractors, cars and motorcycle­s are invited to take part. Entry is only €20. For further informatio­n please contact Bill Rigley 087 2996919. All proceeds will be in aid of the Boolavogue annual senior citizens’ party which is organised by the Foróige club.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club is again raising funds by collecting used clothing and would be delighted to receive them. They welcome all donations of unwanted clothes, paired shoes, hats scarves, handbags, curtains, clean towels, duvet covers, pillow cases and clean bed linen. However, they don’t want duvets or cushions please. All donations can be left into the old GAA complex in Monageer from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. every week. So if you have been spring cleaning or intend to, your local GAA could benefit by recycling the clothes.

TIDY VILLAGE

The Boolavogue Tidy Village Group is doing its annual sponsored walk on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. The walk will start at St Cormac’s church, will head towards to Clone crossroads and turn right there. At Dranagh Lane it will turn right again and then back through Ballyorley cross, by St Cormac’s AFC and back to the start. Shorter walks are optional. Sponsorshi­p cards are available in the local post office or from Paddy O’Dowd and Dorothy Hall. Donations will also be accepted on the day if desired. Your support would be greatly appreciate­d.

DRAMATIC CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to Barry Turner, who as well as being nominated for a best supporting actor award in the All-Ireland Confined Drama finals recently, was awarded with a scholarshi­p to the Drama summer School in Gormanstow­n for his excellent acting.

GAA LOTTO

The numbers drawn in last week’s Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto draw were 2, 12, 13 and 29 and as no lucky punter had all four of them, the jackpot has been increased to €6,300 for the next draw. This will be held in the clubhouse on Tuesday, April 30, at 9.30 p.m. Tickets for this draw can be had from all club members, local businesses and online. Áine and Niamh O’Loughlin did not have all four numbers but they had three of them and scooped the €160 match-three prize.

SOCCER NEWS

St Cormac’s ‘B’ team secured promotion from Division 5 in their last game of the season, beating the All Blacks in Mayglass on Sunday, April 14, by 3-0. Liam Walsh scored two of them with Adam Meehan adding the third. Congratula­tions to the team and many thanks to Niall Finn and Will Walsh for all their work with the squad throughout the season. The previous day the Youths’ team were away to St Leonard’s and due to lack of numbers, lost by 0-4. Our under-13s were at home to Fastnet Rovers in the Cup, and turned in a great performanc­e. Our lads were unlucky to go behind in the first half, but responded well with Leon Doran bring them back to level pegging just before the break. Mossy Walsh scored a fantastic goal early in the second half, connecting on a Leon Doran pass. Evan Dunne netted the team’s third goal, smashing the back of he net from a well deserved penalty. He added his second shortly afterwards and then Jack Ellix completed the scoring with a 20m volley. The game finished 5-2 as Fastnet scored a late penalty.
