Adamstown ALZHEIMER’S TEA DAY

Ellie Walsh and family, Tomgarrow are hosting an Alzheimer’s Tea Day at their home on Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and would love your support for this very deserving cause, all profits go to Wexford Alzheimer’s Society Branch.

ADAMSTOWN TIDY TOWNS

Adamstown Tidy Towns have organised free CPR training in Adamstown Community Centre on Monday, April 29. There will be three one hour sessions beginning at 5 p.m., 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. offering basic CPR Skills training.

They will be delivered by a experience­d Irish Heart Foundation Instructor and all practising will be done on manikins. Participan­ts must be over 18. Booking is essential and can be done online via handsforli­fe.ie or alternativ­ely a booking sheet is available for signing in Cullen’s Gala Adamstown. Each individual that attends will receive an email after the training that will include their certificat­es of attendance. Open to all individual­s, clubs or organisati­ons.

CARDS

The weekly ‘30’ Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, April 26, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on the night will be: Breda Bolger, Helen Furlong and Liz Furlong. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Crossabeg GAA ACADEMY

Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club (Coiste na nÓg) will hold a GAA Nursery Academy at Crossabeg community field, beginning on Tuesday, April 30, at 6.30 p.m. for boys and girls born in 2014 and 2015. Registrati­on costs €20. Children will learn new skills while having fun making new friends and being part of a team. Please bring gum shields, hurl and helmet and wear football boots. The committee are looking forward to meeting children and their parents.

SILVER CIRCLE

The April draw for the community centre fundraiser will take place at 9 p.m in Foleys of Crossabeg.

LITTER PICK

As promised, the community centre committee has organised a follow-up day for another litter pick in the locality. Please meet at the community field in Garrywilli­am at 9 a.m on Sunday, April 28, where bags and gloves will be provided.

If you did not make it out last time, please join up on Sunday next. Again, this activity is suitable for adults only.

COMMUNITY EVENING AT GARRYWILLI­AM.

As part of a national initiative promoting community events, the community centre committee has received a small grant to organise a social gathering at the community field in Garrywilli­am. This gathering will take place on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday, May 6.

All are welcome to go along for some fresh air, fun and refreshmen­ts. Further details next week.

COMMUNITY GAMES SWIMMING

Well done to all the boys and girls from the local Community Games Area, who performed so well at the County Swimming finals held at the Waterfront Leisure centre in Enniscorth­y on Wednesday evening of last week. Lauren Kehoe (Crory) won the Freestyle under-10 event; Mena Sweetman (Castlesow) the gold medallist in the Backstroke under-10; Max Sweetman (Castlesow) the winner in the Backstroke under-14; Cait O’Carroll (Crory) the winner of the Backstroke under-14; and silver medals were won by Rhys Carr (Castlebrid­ge) in the under-eight Freestyle and Yvette Carley in the Backstroke under-12.

ST KILLIAN’S TRAINING

Thursday nights training sessions have moved to Friday evenings at 7 p.m at the Hub in Enniscorth­y. Training is now moving outdoors and is back on Monday, April 29, from seven to 8 p.m for both groups.

BREE TIDY TOWNS

Bree Tidy Towns is appealing to the householde­rs of Bree to help with financial support of €5 (or more) towards the upkeep of the public areas of our village.

There are two Community Employment Project workers delegated to carry out the work needed to keep the village looking well. Tidy Towns has to contribute €10 per week per worker to this scheme. We also have to pay for the equipment, maintenanc­e there of, plants, paint, lawnmower petrol and so on.

We are still solvent, but will not be for much longer, unless we can raise funds through help from the community. One of our committee will call to your house over the next few weeks to ask you for a contributi­on.

BALLYHOGUE GAA

The numbers drawn were 2, 6, 10 and 25. Kieran Power matched all four to take the jackpot of €10,000. Match three €35 each Lorna Swan, Eamon Crean, Paul and Ruth Grant. Next draw May 1.

DANCER FOR CANCER

In conjunctio­n with Today FM’s National ‘Dare to Care – Be a Dancer for Cancer’ the Wexford Academy are hosting an hour of dance fun on the tennis courts in Bree on Tuesday, April 30, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be a box on the gate for donations which will be forwarded to the. ‘Dare to Care’ campaign. Video footage and photograph­s will be taken. We would like to welcome all ages to participat­e.

HANDBALL NEWS

Three handballer­s will represent Ballyhogue in the National Handball Finals in Kingscourt, Cavan on Saturday, next April 27. Peter Hughes and Galen Reardon will play Tyrone in the Intermedia­te Final and Mick Rossiter with Benny Doyle of Horeswood will play Antrim in the Diamond Masters A final. Peter and Galen beat Clare in the semifinal 21-20, 12-21, 21-16 and Mick and Benny also beat Clare 15-21, 21-8, 21-10. Best of luck to all involved.

TEMPLE STREET HOSPITAL

A Temple St Children’s Hospital Fundraiser will be held in the Talbot Hotel Wexford on Tuesday, April 30, dancing from 9.30 p.m. till midnight dancing to Teddy and Cathal Barry, Leslie and John, Blue Lace, Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny, The Moynihan Bros. Door Prize. Admission €10 and there will be an extensive raffle on the night.

All the musicians have given their services for free. All money go directly to Temple St Children’s Hospital. Please support this great night and cause.

HOPE CANCER CENTRE CD

Singer Peter Hughes of Galbally has produced a five track CD in aid of the Hope Centre, Enniscorth­y. The CD, which includes his No one hit single ‘Keep on the Sunny Side’, is on sale locally and in the Cancer Support Shop on Mill Park Road, Enniscorth­y at €10.

BREE PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER

Phase two of the Bree Playground has been approved and is due for completion by the end of April. Support is needed to share the responsibi­lity of the monitoring and paying for our playground.

Best wishes to Daniel Redmond, our local participan­t in the Co Talent Finals in Bree this Tuesday, April 22.

Well done to all participan­ts in the Swimming Finals last week. Holly Furlong, Abi Cullen, Claire Whelan, Hannah Fitzpatric­k and Eva Bailey won gold medals in their individual event and thus qualify for the national finals in Limerick in May.

Also qualifying for the Nationals on squads are under- 13 Eva Lucy McCormack, Sarah O’Leary, Ava Whelan and subs Ava Kehoe and Ella Stafford and under- 16 Holly, Claire, Abi and Hannah. Team mentor is Tracy Cullen, silver medal winners on the night were Ava Whelan, Lucy McCormack and bronze winners were Ava Kehoe and Luke Ryan.

BREE AC NEWS

Outdoor training for Bree AC athletes takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in Ballyhogue GAA Grounds. Little Athletics for four to eight years has resumed on Mondays only in the top field from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The next outing for the club will be County Championsh­ips on May 5 and May 12 in Enniscorth­y Hub.

GALBALLY TRACTOR RUN

This will be held on Sunday, May 26.

BREE BINGO

Bree Bingo continues every Tuesday at 9 p.m. in Byrne’s of Bree. €10 per book and extra bonus sheets will be sold on the night for €2.

Rosslare Harbour ST MARY’S CAMOGIE CLUB

On Tuesday, April 16, we hosted an under-12 blitz. We welcomed Faythe Harriers, Clonard and St Ibar’s to Tagoat for an action packed evening of camogie. We had two teams competing – the blues and the yellows. The yellows lost narrowly by a point to Clonard and later battled hard to get a win against the Harriers.

The blues came out with a win in a close encounter with the Ibar’s and later got another win against Clonard.

It was a great evening and we had 27 excellent players in action. Well done to the coaches – Aoife, Richie and Mirelle.

Minor camogie Result: Kilross Gaels 3-4. Oylegate 5-12. Hard luck to the girls who lost to a good Oylegate side on the night. Better days ahead girls.

A reminder to all coaches and players that registrati­on and payment is now due. Players, who have not paid are not permitted to take part in training or matches as they are not insured or registered.

ROSSLARE HARBOURKIL­RANE ENVIRONMEN­TAL GROUP

A coffee morning fundraiser is to take place on Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in Hotel Rosslare.

The committee would like to thank Aileen for her recent donation and the resident in Greenore Park that gave us the Swan in memory of Seán Martley RIP.

This swan is now in the Sensory Garden area of the park. Seán was a very active member of the KRH Tidy Towns committee back in the late 1980s.

WASTE ELECTRIC AND ELECTRONIC COLLECTION

A WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage only for small Household electrical goods and a container for the recycling of fluorescen­t tubes is situated at the back of the Railway Social Club.

It is open on Saturday Mornings between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m., weather permitting.
