Concert raises €3,500
THE organisers of the ‘Wexstock’ concert which rocked Holohan’s recently were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for a whopping €3,550 to Wexford Hospice Homecare. Following on from a hugely successful fundraising concert focused on the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival the previous year, local super-group The Old Fogertys returned once again, this time with an even more ambitious idea.
Marking 50 years since the iconic Woodstock Festival, Myles Mullally came up with the idea for the gig which saw a host of guest performers take to the stage with the band to perform some of their favourite tracks by artists who appeared at the festival.
And what a line-up it was to choose from, with songs from the likes of The Who, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana and many more.
The band, composed of Brendan Carthy (drums), Pat Murphy (bass), Richard King (lead guitar) and Eddie Creane (rhythm guitar), welcomed a series of guest performers that included Thérèse Canavan Bolger, Karen Franklin, Laura Franklin, Nikki Cogley, Martin Crimmings, Niall Holohan.
A great night was had by everyone and most importantly, everyone involved did a great job of collecting sponsorship for a wonderful cause in the form of Hospice. The gang were delighted to meet up once again at Holohan’s, however, this time instead of being armed with guitars and microphones, they were armed with a big cheque for the charity which was gratefully received by Una Murphy who thanked them all for giving their talents and time to raise money for them.
