Firstaid course

Enniscorth­y Red Cross will be holding a basic first aid course in St John’s Day Care Centre on Wednesday, May 1.

Sign in will take place at 7.30 p.m. and the course content will include focussing attention on what action to take in the event people are at an emergency.

The range of topics set to be covered will include: bleeding control; unconsciou­sness; burns; fractures and other injury scenarios that might present themselves.

As one of the organisers commented: ‘A little knowledge can save a life.’.

CD for Hope

A local singer has produced a CD in aid of the Hope Centre in Enniscorth­y.

Peter Hughes, from Galbally, produced the five-track EP specifical­ly to raise money for the centre which provides a very valuable service to people all over the county and the southeast.

The CD, which includes the single ‘Keep On the Sunny Side’, is now available through local outlets and also through the Cancer Support Shop on Mill Park Road.

The cost of the EP is €10 and all support will be greatly appreciate­d.

Open day in Artramon

An open day will take place at Artramon House and gardens on Sunday, May 19.

With the weather expected to take a turn for the better over the coming weeks it promises to be a great fun day out for all the family.

StAidan’s Parish retreat

St Aidan’s Parish Retreat will take place on Thursday morning, May 9.

The parish’s pastoral council is organising the retreat which will begin with 10 a.m. Mass and continue in the Manse till 1 p.m.

The retreat will be led by Sr Mary Rowsome, who is St John of God sister from Ballyvallo­o retreat and conference centre, Blackwater.

Anyone interested in availing of the opportunit­y to ‘take time out’ after Easter is asked to give their name to the parish office before Friday, May 3.

It promises to be a great event and will provide an ideal opportunit­y for people to reflect and prioritise the positive aspects of their lives.

Everyone in the community is invited to participat­e on the retreat.

Parish golf classic

St Aidan’s cathedral parish golf classic will take place at Enniscorth­y Golf Club on Friday, May 24.

The cost of entry will be €140 per team-of-four and there will be prizes for GUI and ILGU members and non-members.

To book a place at the event contact the parish office at 053 9235777.

Anyone interested in entering a team is asked to contact the parish office on the aforementi­oned number to find out time allocation­s.

In addition to being a great fundraisin­g event the golf classic will also give people an opportunit­y to get out in some fresh air with family and friends.

Active retired

Enniscorth­y Active Retirement Associatio­n has a number of different activities planned in the coming weeks that will keep the members very busy.

The schedule of events includes: Theatre trip to Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, to see ‘Light a Penny Candle’ on Wednesday, April 24; Spring break to Westport for five nights from Sunday, April 28, to Friday, May 3.

The proposed date for the day outing is June 5 and details of that will be relayed to the members at their next meeting.

Ongoing activities in the associatio­n include: Mondays – Line Dancing 11 a.m. and bowls at 1 p.m. at the astroturf; Pitchand-putt at 10.30 a.m., Monday and Friday at St Patrick’s Park (weather permitting); Tuesdays – monthly Bus/Walk outings; Wednesdays – Riverside walk at 11 a.m. (meeting at the hotel). Thursdays – Ramblers walk meeting at 9.30 a.m. at Lidl car park and scrabble at 10.30 a.m. at the astroturf.

Crafts will also take place on Thursdays at 2 p.m. at the astroturf.

Members are also asked to note that membership­s close at the end of the month.

Playground donations

Phase two of the Bree playground has been approved and is due to be completed by the end of this month.

However, as with many community projects the supported of the general public will be much appreciate­d and all support is needed with regard to sharing the responsibi­lity of monitoring and paying for the playground.

Donations to the project will be gratefully accepted through the instagram or Facebook app in addition to donated support to the project through the gofundme.com page.

Once completed the playground will provide a much valued amenity to the local community.

Silver Circle draw results

The results of the latest Silver Circle draw were composed of: First – Carmel O’Brien (€150); second – Maeve O’Donohoe (€75); and third – Philip Quigley (€75).

There were also 10 prize winners who each received €20.

They included: Mary B Murphy; Laura Kelly; Áine Doyle; Julie Heslin; Harry Priestly; Mary Kehoe; Theresa O’Brien; Kathleen Murphy; Sr Lorraine and Sinéad Dempsey.

Recovery college

The Spring 2019 time table for the Recover College South East is now available and enrolment forms to participat­e in a workshop can be had by contacting 086 1746330 or by email to recoveryco­llegesouth­east@gmail.com.

The workshops are based around mental health aware-

ness and support and are a great resource within the community for people of all ages.

The area of mental health is becoming increasing­ly important in modern society especially in view of how the pace of life is accelerati­ng at an alarming rate.

That’s one of the reasons why these sessions provide an invaluable resource for the community.

They are also free-of-charge and are based around general well-being and recovery.

CD to be launched

The Presentati­on Centre will be the venue for an album launch on Thursday, May 2, at 8 p.m.

The album, ‘Reuben James’, is being released by Enniscorth­y based singer, Mick Comerford.

It was also recorded locally by Ivan Levingston­e with renowned musician, Leslie Dunne, acting as producer.

The CD is sure to become a firm favourite in households around the south east as Mick has forged a formidable name for himself on the local country music scene for the last number of years and has proved to be one of the most popular performers on the contempora­ry local circuit.

For the launch Mick will be joined by special guests including his daughter, Eve.

Tickets for the event are priced €15 and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

Coffee morning

A coffee morning will be held in Oylegate Community Centre on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m.

The event is being organised to raise money for Wexford Hospice.

An annual event it has been run for the last three years and is organised by local woman Maudie Maher.

To date it has raised €20,000 for one of the county’s most important community support organisati­ons.

Everyone in the community is invited to go along and give it their support on the day and the money raised will be put to very good use.

Whist drive

The next regular whist drive takes place in St Anthony’s Unit at the CWCW on Friday, May, l0, and Friday, May 24.

The sessions will follow on from a special fundraisin­g event held recently to raise money for the Irish Pilgrimage Trust which brings young people with disabiliti­es to Lourdes each year.

The organisers of that event were delighted with the response from the general public and the members are now looking forward to this month’s sessions.

Charity coffee morning

A charity coffee morning will take place in the IFA centre in Enniscorth­y on Saturday, May 18.

The event will be held from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being hosted by the family of Darragh O’Loughlin.

It’s being organised to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities (Ireland) and also CMRF (Children’s Medical and Research Foundation) Crumlin.

Both the CMRF and RMH charities do a lot of very important work in the area of health and well-being.

They focus particular attention on the needs of young people.

Due to the worthy nature of the event and done by both organisati­ons for people all over the country everyone in the community is being encouraged to attend.

Legion of Mary walk

The Legion of Mary annual procession will take place on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. from the Friary, Wexford.

Parishione­rs from across the county are invited to participat­e.

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. and that will be followed by the procession.

Tea will also be served following the event.

Pilgrimage

The Ferns Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place between May 11 and 16.

The cost of the five-night pilgrimage will be €749.

Among the highlights will be Mass at the grotto, anointing of the sick, a torchlight procession and also a Blessed sacrament procession.

The pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago will take place from August 17 to August 24.

The cost will be €599 inclusive of flights, accommodat­ion and insurance.

However, places are limited and early booking is advisable.

The pilgrimage director will be Fr Roger O’Neill and the chaplain will be Fr James Cullen.

A pilgrimage to Fatima will take place from October 9 to October 16 which will be led by Bishop Denis Brennan.

The cost of that will be €785 per person sharing.
