All smiles for Cllr Ireton at his campaign launch

- By CATHY LEE

Labour party leader Brendan Howlin TD was on hand in Gorey to launch the campaign of long term councillor Robert Ireton.

‘It went really well, the turn out was great and I was delighted to have everyone come along for support,’ said Cllr Ireton.

He explained that about 30 people were there at the launch which took place at the Coach House bar and restaurant in Gorey.

Cllr Ireton said that he is appreciative of having long term support in the district, and that the most frequent issues coming up during the canvassing campaign this time around, from talking to people on doors are concerns about planning and housing.

Nicholas Wafer, the Labour candidate for the new Kilmuckridge district also showed his support on the night, and has been a long time supporter and admirer of Cllr Ireton.

Nicholas said he was always impressed by Cllr Ireton’s attitude and commitment to the people of Gorey.

‘I met Robbie in 2001 at the caravan park in Courtown, we used to sit around and discuss tourism in the area. I’ve admired him since he was first elected and I’ve always been happy to be following in his footsteps. But it’s time now to go my own way on my own path,’ said local election hopeful Nicholas Wafer.

‘He had some great support and there were a lot of new fresh faces. Cllr Ireton spoke well as he’s in a very positive mindset as regards getting elected this time,’ said Nicholas Wafer speaking after the launch.

Nicholas explained that the Labour party are being viewed more positively now than five years ago, and that has been reflected by those interested in the party. Joe Ryan and Cllr George Lawlor, both running for the Labour Party in the Wexford district, were both in Gorey to support the launch of Cllr Ireton’s campaign.

Up next, Nicholas Wafer will launch his campaign at his café in Ballygarrett, The Wishing Well Café, from 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.
