JestFest laughter set to commence
BELLY laughs will be audible right around Wexford town this weekend as the now annual JestFest comedy festival hits venues around town once more with a selection of hilarious shows running from Thursday to Sunday.
Run by Lantern, the people behind the hugely successful Wexford Spiegeltent Festival, in a short period of time, JestFest has garnered a wonderful reputation among acts and festival-goers alike and is now held in the same esteem as Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs festival.
Once again, Brian Byrne and the Lantern team are delighted to welcome back some of the biggest and best-loved names in Irish comedy for what promises to be a brilliant weekend.
The fun gets under way on Thursday night in Mackens with Steve Bennett’s ‘Madcap Comedy Bingo’ which is ‘a high energy game show with crazy prizes, mystery boxes and bloody good craic!’ On Friday, this is followed by a takeover of Mackens by Dublin’s best loved comedy club for the Comedy Crunch, as well as a performance at Crown Live by Giz a Laugh’s Enya Martin who presents her new comedy show ‘Would Ya Be Able?’
It’s all go on Saturday with the hilarious Joanne McNally hitting the stage with ‘Gleebag’ at the Crown Live from 7 p.m. followed by John Colleary and Aidan Greene in Mackens at 8 p.m. and the legendary Owen ‘Buzz’ Colgan of ‘Hardy Bucks’ in the Crown Live at 9.30 p.m.
Bank holiday Sunday sees more comedy than you can shake a stick as, fresh from his ‘Dancing With the Stars’ exploits, Fred Cooke performs at the Crown Live at 7 p.m. This will be followed by an intimate show with the legendary Neil Delamere in Mackens at 8 p.m. The Comedy and Dinner gig will take place at The Vine from 9 p.m. featuring Father Ted duo Joe Rooney and Patrick McDonnell.
Danny O’Brien will then take the stage at Crown Live at 9.30 p.m. before Tony Cantwell brings the festival to a close in Mackens at 10.30 p.m.
Tickets for the festival are said to be selling well and it is anticipated that the town will experience a nice boost of visitors over the bank holiday weekend as a result. For more details and tickets, see www.jestfest.ie.
