George runs amok as Gorey triumph!

Hat-trick for Hadden in league final

-

A very cold and windy Tullow RFC was the setting for the under-16s South East final between Enniscorthy and Gorey on Saturday last.

Gorey had a good start with a try from George Hadden after five minutes, but a very difficult conversion was missed.

Enniscorthy came right back in to it and dominated the next 10 minutes with number 8 Ore Lassisi showed some neat footwork to score under the posts and the try was converted which gave his team a 7-5 lead.

Having survived the ’Scorthy onslaught, Gorey struck back with another try by George Hadden and then again just before half-time, this time from Sean Egan, for a 15-7 lead at the break.

The second half began with Enniscorthy seeking to claw back the deficit and they immediately worked hard to get in to Gorey’s 22. A few attacks were repelled and then, in the fifth minute, Gorey had the put into a scrum just inside their own 22.

George Hadden made a great break down the blind side and stormed deep into the Enniscorthy half. He was brought to ground, but the ball was recycled brilliantly being spread first to the left and then the right. Ronan Cleary released to Ross O’Loughlin on the wing who finished superbly in the corner for 20-7.

George Hadden then scored his third, with 10 minutes left, and Lee converted for a 27-7 lead.

For the last 10 minutes, ’Scorthy threw everything at Gorey.

Some fine passing earned them a try from Stefen San Augustin and conversion from Conal Kervick, and they were unfortunate not to get one other.

But the final whistle brought things to an end with the final score of 27-14.

Both sides will have to do it all again on Monday, May 6, in Donnybrook, when they meet in the Leinster Cup final.
