Little to cheer about as Glynn-Barntown see off Blackwater

-

THERE was little to cheer about as Glynn-Barntown edged their way to a comfortable three point victory over a ragged Blackwater outfit in this All County Football League Division 4 game played in Killurin on Sunday afternoon last.

Glynn-Barntown went for control from the opening exchanges but despite their dominance the attack floundered when it came to finishing, and with Blackwater showing little in the way of attacking instinct, one had to wait until the thirteenth minute for the games opening score a Dylan Lyne point for the homeside.

With erratic finishing the order of the half, one had to wait a further nine minutes for the games second score, a Jamie Creane point, which was followed by two quickfire points from Daniel O’Regan and Jack Brazil to leave the homeside leading 0-4 to 0-0, after 25 minutes.

Blackwater suddenly sprang to life in the closing minutes of the half kicking four successive points through Michael Lillis, Thomas Murphy, two frees, and Kevin O’Brien, leaving the sides deadlocked.

The second half followed much the same format as the first with the eventual winners controlling matters. After a thirty-fifth minute Conor Sutton point gave Blackwater the lead for the first time, the homeside responded with a quick counter attack for sub Luke Codd to goal, and with Matthew Joyce, Frankie Hynes, Jamie Crene and Jack Brazil going on to add points, the homeside led 1-9 to 0-6, entering the closing ten minutes.

Blackwater did manage a late revival producing late scores as in the first half with Thomas Murphy kicking a free, while Luke Codd responded with a Glynn-Barntown point.

As the game moved into addition time, Karl Sutton forced a ball over the line from close in but there was to be no denying the homesides dominance through most of this game.
