PremierDivision

Moyne Rangers struck a real blow in the Premier Division title race on Sunday when inflicting the first league defeat of the season on local rivals Shamrock Rovers.

James Peare grabbed the only goal of the game to move Moyne to within two points of the long-time leaders with a game in hand.

Shamrock Rovers complete their league campaign with a home game against old rivals North End United next Sunday, while Moyne Rangers host Gorey Rangers.

North End United picked up three points without having to kick a ball last Tuesday evening as they were handed a walkover from Bridge Rovers.

Gorey Rangers finally shook of the stubborn attentions of Forth Celtic in a real goal-fest on Thursday evening, eventually prevailing 6-4 in a thriller.

Eric Quinn helped himself to a hat-trick, while Glen O’Brien, Mark Woods and Dion Leeson got their other goals in a 6-4 triumph, with Kyle Firman and Lee Busher both netting doubles for Celtic.

On Sunday, Rangers were much too good for struggling Corach Ramblers, winning 4-0 thanks to a Mark Woods double and a goal apiece from Eric Quinn and Craig Foster.

Meanwhile, Courtown Hibs boosted their survival hopes with a 4-1 win over Forth Celtic.

Ryan Busher fired the Murrintown side in front, but Hibs stormed back with goals from Yaw Aboagye, James Byrne, Michael Kinsella and Matty Kavanagh.

Division3

Raheen ensured a third-place finish in Division 3 with a 2-0 win over St. Joseph’s on Sunday. Peter Finn and Daire Bolger got their goals.

StannoYouthsCup

North End United and Moyne Rangers booked their places in the Stanno Youths Cup decider, with both coming through their respective semi-finals on Saturday.

The Sky Blues needed extra-time to see off Wexford Bohs, winning 3-2 after a titanic tussle. A superb Cian Carty free-kick gave Bohs a 1-0 half-time lead and they looked to be on their way when Shane O’Neill doubled their advantage.

However, North End fought back to force extra-time, before pouncing for the winner.

Cian Kinlough helped himself to a double, while Harry Kehoe also hit the back of the net for the winners.

Moyne Rangers overcame Kilmore United in their last four encounter, winning 2-0 thanks to a Cian Hanley strike and an own goal.

YouthsDivision1

Cloughbawn AFC closed in on the MMI Group Youths Division 1 title with a comfortable win over Wexford Celtic on Thursday evening.

They hit Celtic for six without reply, with Owen Furlong netting five goals for the league leaders and Daire Rochford also hitting the back on of the net.

Rosslare Rangers are still in with a shout, having won 2-1 away to Kilmore United on Wednesday evening.

YouthsDivision3

Shelburne United forced a play-off for the Youths Division 3 title when overcoming title-rivals Fastnet Rovers on Saturday.

The Rathangan side went into the game knowing a draw would clinch the silverware, but Shelburne came out on top 2-1 with goals from Jamie O’Rourke and Seán Moran.
