Good catch of contemporary art

-

Catch 2019- The Nude The Sea The Muse, is the title of an eclectic collection of contemporary art currently on display in the Stella Maris centre in Kilmore Quay.

The show features 40 new pieces of contemporary art including paintings, sculpture, video and prints by 30 artists and will continue at the centre until Thursday, May 2, from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily.

It’s the second in a series of exhibitions with the debut event Catch 2017 taking place two years ago and featuring exclusively Wexford artists.

This time, the organisers Andi McGarry and Lar O’Toole expanded the remit to include other contemporary artists from around the country with the works based loosely around the themes of the sea, the nude and the muse.

Among the diverse range of artists taking part are Zane Sutra, Sabonn Hogansk, Martina Furlong, Stephen Nolan, Sophie Lawlor, Adele Walsh, Rebecca Deegan, Mary Wallace, Caitriona Bale, Kevin Ryan, Jane Campbell, Kevin Power, Anne Martin Walsh, David Bickley, Aiseling Noone, Marja van Kampen, Tony Robinson, Martina McAteer, Laura Downey, Amy Guilfoyle, Lar O’Toole, Dominique Crowley, Andi McGarry, Rachael Clarke, Hannah McGrenera, Nadia Corridan, Katrina Tracuma, Trish O’Callaghan, Simon Bates and Marja Kilmanic,

‘ To hold a contemporary art exhibition in a rural setting is both exciting and unusual - a case of bringing the mountain to Mohammed’, said Andi.

‘Folk not normally prone to gallery going will have the opportunity to explore contemporary art in a rural setting’, he said.
