Kilmore Quay man’s role in award-winning film
Telegael, a company founded by Kilmore Quay man Paul Cummins, produced the film Out of Innocence which is on release in cinemas nationwide. including Wexford and Gorey.
Based on real life events surrounding the Kerry Babies case of the 1980’s, the Telegael and Defiant Films feature film won critical acclaim at festival in the US and Europe.
Out of Innocence features the acclaimed actress Fiona Shaw with Alun Armstrong, Gary Whelan, Ruth McCabe and Fionnuala Flaherty, and centres on the Flynn family who find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation that shakes the nation.
Paul Cummins grew up in Kilmore Quay and studied at St. Peter’s College, Wexford and UCD. He became a chartered accountant and moved to Spiddal in Galway where he set up the film and animation studios Telegael in 1988. He has acted as Executive Producer on more than 40 projects for the global televsion market amounting to more than 750 hours of programming.
The Telegael group employs about 400 full-time and contract staff annually on a range of productions. It has co-produced animated and live action series with partners in the US, France, UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, India, China, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Spain, Philippines and Malaysia.
The studio has co-produced 1,000 hours of television programming with projects distributed to over 150 countries and translated into more than 40 languages. Broadcast partners and distributors include Disney, Lionsgate, Netflix, NBC Universal Sprout, BBC, Discovery, Hulu, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and France Television.
Out of Innocence is one of a number projects recently produced at the Telegael studios, including the animated feature film Norm of the North which made more than $17m at the US box office. The co-production Blinky Bill hit cinema screens in 2016 and a follow up TV series is imminent. The animated film Captain Morten and the Spider Queen, released in 2018 and aimed at a family audience, is the first stop-motion feature film ever produced in Ireland. Telegael is also in production on a second series of the children’s live action comedy sitcom Drop Dead Weird for Channel Seven, Australia, RTE and ITV. Telegael is the Irish producer on the Irish Crime Series for ARD, Germany which was filmed in Galway and is also in pre production on the next three films in the Jack Taylor franchise, based on the books by Galway author Ken Bruen. starring Jack Taylor (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey).
