GAA NEWS

Well done to the junior hurlers who beat Bannow by 1-20 to 0-13 on Easter Saturday. And congratulations to the under-11 footballers who took part in the Geraldine Moran’s football blitz in Dublin on the same day. They played five very tough games in sweltering heat and returned to the parish with the trophy. Joint captains, Ronán Sweeney and Eoghan Whelan starred throughout and were loudly cheered when they raised the silverware.

Team: Simon Power, Fionn Stafford, Aaron Lacey, Ben Lawless, Ryan Walsh, Tadhg Dunne, Ronán Sweeney, Jack Larkin, Matt Butler, Michael Somers, Patrick Dempsey, Eoghan Whelan and Aaron Swaine. The club and the players would like to thank all the parents for the long drive at such an early hour and especially thank the helpers and umpires who did such a good job.

FÉILE NA NGAEL HURLING

The Un-14 boys were very busy on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday, winning all three of their Féile na nGael qualifiers to book a place in the semifinal. However, this had to be postponed due to a mix-up over referees and in the rescheduled game played in Patrick’s Park on Wednesday evening last, they beat Ballyhogue by two points after a tough exciting match. There was little to separate the teams but two vital goals, one in the first half from Seán Egan and a stunning shot in the second half from Bobby Codd left them 2-3 to 0-7 winners.

Their final, which is scheduled for this Sunday, May 5, is against a very tough and experience Fethard team. The game, which should be played in St Patrick’s Park, is due to start at 1;45 p.m. and the team would appreciate as much support as possible.

The squad in the semifinal was as follows: Euan Pender, Thomas Deacon, Matt Gahan, Jack Turner, Oisín Stafford, Evan Dunne, Adam Power, Niall Dolan, Alfie Murphy, Patrick Kinsella, Robert Cahill, Bobby Codd, Christopher Jordan-Kelly, Charlie Donnelly, Seán Egan; subs: Eden Flynn, Seán Walsh, Gerard Turner, Ronan Egan.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club are again raising funds by collecting used clothing and would be delighted to receive them. They welcome all donations of unwanted clothes, paired shoes, hats scarves, handbags, curtains, clean towels, duvet covers, pillow cases and clean bed linen. However, they don’t want duvets or cushions please.

All donations can be left into the old GAA complex in Monageer from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. every week. So if you have been spring cleaning or intend to, your local GAA could benefit by recycling the clothes.

The Tidy Village group is asking for more volunteers to come forward and help maintain the flowerbeds they have installed at the approaches to Boolavogue. If you can give even an hour a week they would be very appreciative. They would also be very grateful for as much support as possible for their annual sponsored walk this Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

At Dranagh Lane it will turn right again and then back through Ballyorley cross, by St Cormac’s AFC and back to the start. Shorter walks are optional.
