Gory times ahead for Enniscorthy drama
ENNISCORTHY Castle provided the ideal venue last week for the launch of the local drama group’s new production.
‘Blood of Nosferatu’ will be staged in the Presentation Centre from October 29 to November 2, and with it being a blood curdling tale of Count Dracula it was very apt that the launch took place in a castle.
The drama group members have worked very hard preparing for the production which, one member said, promises frighten ‘the bejaysus’ out of the audience.
The show will get under way at 8 p.m. each night and what better way of spending a night over Halloween than witnessing a story of the most infamous count in fictional literature.
The play, by Darryl Pickett, is an adaptation of the 1922 film adaptation of Bran Stoker’s ‘Dracula’.
The audience in attendance at the launch were given details of the storyline which will be based around a central character named Thomas Harker.
He is sent by his employers Walker and Halloman Solicitors to Transylvania to deal with one of their clients whose name is Count Dracula.
However, when he mentions where he is going to locals in the Carpathian Mountains they immediately become frightened and try to dissuade him from continuing his journey by night to Castle Dracula.
‘This is a daring new slant on the Stoker tale of the most famous vampire of all,’ said a spokesperson for Enniscorthy Drama Group.
‘Darryl Pickett`s ‘Dracula’ drips with wit, social conscience and brooding paranoia,’ she added.
‘There is no romantic swooning here; this is a horrific account of a corrupting force more terrifying than death.’
The show will feature a 16-member cast and it promises to be a great night out.
The show is being produced by Tom Reddy and will feature acclaimed actor, Ronan P Byrne, as Dracula along with a strong cast of well known local actors.
