Coffee event raises €1,560 for school
A COFFEE morning fundraising event in Enniscorthy has raised €1,560 for a local school.
The event was held in Impresso Cafe, on Slaney Place, and it served a dual purpose because it also marked the fifth anniversary of the business which is run by husband and wife team Brendan and Joy Doyle.
However, the money raised on the day was presented to St Senan’s Primary School and will go towards the school’s ASD unit.
The cafe proprietors were delighted to be able to support the school and they acknowledged the support their fundraiser received on the day from their customers.
All proceeds from coffee sales that day went towards the school and the fact such a large amount of money was raised delighted everyone involved.
Because St Senan’s school is held in very high regard locally, this was likely a contributing factor to the success of the event, in addition to Impresso Cafe being regarded as one of the most popular eateries in the town.
The money was presented to St Senan’s principal, Oonagh Rackard, who was delighted to accept it.
Also present at the handover of the cheque was teacher Eimear Doyle and pupil Evan Doyle.
The school’s ASD unit was established in 2005 for children on the autistic spectrum.
The unit was funded by the Department of Education and it has three classes that follow an Applied Behaviour Analysis Verbal Behaviour programme.
Each child who uses the unit has a special needs assistant and the programme in each class is directed by a teacher.
The school is very well known for the high degree of professionalism within the unit where an emphasis is placed on enabling the children to benefit from an integration programme, with a view to gradually introducing them to their mainstream class.
The integration programme is tailored towards each child’s individual needs.
As such, the unit provides an invaluable resource for children who are on the autistic spectrum and helps them to fulfill their potential.
