Motorists guilty of insurance offences
A SERIES of motor insurance convictions were handed down by Judge Brian O’Shea after he heard evidence provided by gardaí to the District Court.
Shane Denton (37) of 26 Sean Browne, Crescent, Enniscorthy was caught without cover at Ballygillistown in Davidstown last November. The unemployed father of four was fined €200 and banned from driving for three years.
Charlie Hollwill (22) of 57 Ashbrook, The Moyne, Enniscorthy, admitted on the spot that he was uninsured when he was stopped at Ferns on January 29 at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf hatchback. Eighteen previous convictions were mentioned before a fine of €500 was imposed along with a four year ban.
Alisa Petrovici (21) of 4 Ard na Hurrainne, Enniscorthy, who works in Waterford as an advocate for the Roma community, was intercepted in Gorey by Garda Sergeant Kevin Bolger on January 15. Though insured on other vehicles, cover did not extend to the one she was driving at the time. She was fined €200 and disqualified for two years.
The insurance status of Jerry Connors (21) of 28 Castle Rock, Bunclody, became an issue after he was involved in an accident at Quay Street in Enniscorthy on March 15. A policy was produced but it was not valid, so he was fined €500 and put off the road for two years.
Aaron Sinnott (24) of 11 Slí na Sláine, Enniscorthy, was caught at a checkpoint in Inch, Blackwater on the evening of December 9 last. The result in court was a fine of €500 with a four year ban. He was docked a further €150 as a learner permit holder on the road without a qualified passenger.
