Shane and Hopper gunning for glory

-

SHANE DEMPSEY was wished the best by Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy before he headed off last week to represent his country in the World Military Cup in China. The North End United midfielder also has plenty of experience of League of

Ireland fare after his previous stints in Ferrycarrig

Park, and the soldier will be gunning for glory with his team-mates on the far side of the world.

His colleagues on the squad include Enniscorthy’s Chris ‘Hopper’

Kenny, the Wexford F.C. club captain this season, and they have blazed an impressive trail to the quarter-finals already.

Meanwhile, Thursday was a special occasion for

Wexford town goalkeeper Shay O’Leary as he donned the number one jersey for the Under-15 international team in their 3-1 win over Latvia in their first UEFA development tournament clash in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Shay, a student in Wexford C.B.S. and Wexford Albion stalwart throughout his schoolboys career, recently signed for Shamrock Rovers and is making admirable progress.

The other goalkeeper on the squad was used in Saturday’s 4-0 success against the Faroe Islands.

Elsewhere, Enniscorthy’s Festy Ebosele played the full 90 minutes for the international Under-19 side in their 2-0 friendly loss to Denmark in The Showgrounds, Sligo, on Monday of last week.

The Derby County clubman had come on after 65 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to the same opponents at the same venue three days earlier.
